According to my Aunty:

Glenn Hoddle has agreed to become the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

Former White Hart Lane legend Hoddle is set to be installed as George Graham's replacement later on Wednesday.

His first game in charge is likely to be the North London derby with Arsenal at Highbury on Saturday.

Southampton chairman Ruupert Lowe announced that Hoddle had revealed he was returning to White Hart Lane in a phone call late on Tuesday night after talks with Spurs.

Lowe said: "At 10pm yesterday, I received a phone call from Glenn saying he wished to end his employment at Southampton with immediate effect and join Tottenham Hotspur as their manager."

The former England boss is believed to have agreed a £6m deal with Spurs, who sacked George Graham earlier this month.

Southampton will also lose assistant manager John Gorman, another former Spurs player, who is set to follow Hoddle to White Hart Lane.

On Tuesday, BBC Sport Online revealed that Hoddle was in negotiations with new bosses Enic.

It is understood Hoddle has an escape clause in his current contract which allows him to join another club upon payment of a compensation figure of £800,000.

George Graham was controversially sacked by Enic, but the club has previously said that they are unlikely to announce a replacement before the end of the season.

However, Hoddle and his agent Dennis Roach met Spurs vice-chairman David Buchler and stand-in chairman Daniel Levy in London on Tuesday.

Hoddle has only just returned from a family holiday in South Africa but has been constantly linked with Tottenham since Graham's departure.

A huge favourite with the club's fans during his playing days at White Hart Lane, Hoddle was immediately made favourite to succeed Graham when the former Spurs boss was sacked on 16 March.

Another former England manager, Kevin Keegan, has been installed as favourite to take over as Southampton boss.

Well, no surprise there then. Why did they even think of talking to TDO?? Never in with a shout. Peyter Reed for Soton??

An interesting conversation with a Southampton fan on the Radio this morning. He was very philisophical about it all. He was glad Hoddle had been their manager, was immensely proud of the fact they'd gone 7 league games without conceding a goal, ( so what eh ) but said the fans respected him for what he'd done rather than loved him and life had to move on.

Mini soap opera around this one. Spurs claiming Soton gave them permission to talk to Hoddle, Soton denying any such thing, Hoddle calling Soton yesterday to say his flight from wherever he'd been sunning himself had been delayed whilst he was on his way to Spurs. Tune in tomorrow to find out if Eileen is really pregnant, and is it Glen's or a result of her wild night of passion with LaTiss....

Talking of le Tissier, will he be in with a shout as new manager, or is Keegan the front runner?

Kevin (The Grudge) Keegan says in his latest autobiog that he was refused entry to Soton's car park when he went back there to commentate for Sky. Being the lad he is he threw a huff, drove off and vowed never to go there again.

So we can conclude then that he is the front runner. :-)
