Shola victim of racial taunts

Shola Ameobi was the target of racial abuse by Albanian supporters during the under 21s game in the Qemal Stafa stadium in Tirana yesterday. Both he and Villa's black player Darius Vassell were taunted with monkey noises and boos throughout the game. Shola was on the subs bench for the first hour of the game , but when he came on for Christie the racial abuse switched from Vassell to Ameobi. Shola was scored two against Finland only came close on one occasion, heading over the bar. The game ended 1 - 0 to England , Greening scoring from the spot . Yesterdays game was only watched by a few hundred so called Albanian fans. Tonight the 'A' team take on the Albanians in the same stadium and with four or five black players in the team, it's likely that the taunts will a lot worse.

The Albanian and Yugoslavs have been warned in the past by FIFA that this behavior is unacceptable , but it dosen't seam to have sunk in. Tougher action is needed by footballs governing body to ensure that racism in these poxy little tin pot countries is stamped out once and for all.

racism in these poxy little tin pot countries

I can't help feeling a tad uneasy about the paradox in this phrase. :-)

Exactly Jonno - something about pots and kettles springs readily to mind!

I knew exactly what kind of responce that would get. I think you should bar me for starting controversial/politically incorrect threads.

Quite frankly, I don't care about what their pots are made of. But what I do care about is the attitude of their suporters. FIFA should make an example of them, but of course, we all know what the "FA" part of their initials stands for.

If it were England fans doing the taunting we'd get thrown out of the competition but FiFa think it's OK to let the developing countries( can I say that) get away with racism.

That's about it, Rik. In terms of developing countries (and makkems) its always a case of softly softly catchee monkey .............

Rik, it was predominately 'Ing-er-lund' supporters who were responsible for most of the aggro in Holland and Belgium last summer (including provoking fights with Morrocans and Turks in Brussels). They weren't kicked out the tournament though there was a huge sigh of relief when 'we' were knocked out. No other country in the world has such a bad reputation for its supporters than England.

well said Stevo.

Also, 'Ingerlund' fans have been and still are some of the most loathesome, racist pieces of scum i've had the mispleasure to come across. I'm not condoning the Albanians at all, but look at the the way England reacts to the Germans and the Scots...

I was amazed at the anti-English feelingin Scotland when I was first here.

"Not you Ian, you're okay, it's the rest of the English".

1990 World Cup I came into work to be met with a German flag on my desk on semi final day.

more to do with politics and 20 years of Tory bludgeoning than an inherent 'hate'?

-- Anonymous, March 28, 2001

England fans v Finland, "Stand up if you hate Scotland"

England fnas against Albania, "Cheer up Craig Brown.........."

Misconceived, nah never!;00

tossers.

this far from home you really appreciate the effect that shite like that has on the rest of the planet. and it isn't good. small-minded bigotry is never good but when it's repeated as truth, it takes on a whole new significance this far from reality..
