This light fable is a humor piece lampooning the German race generally by a burlesque form of the dialect, also making fun of their punctuality and sauerkraut with crude puns. This low humor was common probably until the last German dialect comedian stopped making radio shows or movies. Der Teufel(devil)plays Irish tunes on his fiddle sybolizing Poe's disruptive fun and his own nature. Good example of the way Poe uses dialect(The Gold Bug) other ethnic voices usually used in a lightly mocking manner we might find a bit unacceptable today.
