Concerning his best works, that can only be determined by your person. If by best you happen to mean the best known, there are many, including The Tell-Tale Heart, The Black Cat, The Cask of Amontillado, The Masque of the Red Death, The Premature Burial, The Fall of the House of Usher, Murders in the Rue Morgue, &c. Of his poetry, some of the best known include The Raven, Annabel Lee, The Conquerer Worm, The City in the Sea, and The Bells. I am sorry not to be able to tell you what the best of his works are; that is something that you must determine.

All of his stories contain an element of the macabre, something that is quite unsettling, even though there may be no direct mention of anything of the kind. I have found that there is an almost chilling intelligence with which the stories and poems are written. Truly a master of literature, and certainly the founder of the mystery (Murders in the Rue Morgue), this genious was underappreciated in his time, but today is recognized as one of the greatest writers of all time.

In all that he does, there is an underlying message that only the reader can decipher and interpret for themself. I say, the only method by which you may obtain an accurate answer to your question is to read his works and decide for yourself.

Respectfully,
