Does all shale come as a result of mud? Can mud form different kinds of rocks than just shale alone?

Answers

When mud sediments form rocks, the rocks are called mudstone or shale. Both are fine-grained rock. Mudstone shows poor bedding or none at all. Shale is made of silt and clay and breaks along bedding planes. Look in chapter 7 of the text book (pg 159).
