HLTH - Do you grind your teeth at night?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News : One Thread

Hey All,

I was wondering if any of you grind your teeth at night when you are sleeping? I do, and have since I was a child. I finally have been hurt by all of my grinding.

Sunday, one of my rear molars exploded in my mouth, due to becoming cracked when I grind my teeth. I went to the dentist yesterday. Seems he can't "fix" it until April 3rd. One root canal coming up, with a crown. :( That'll be $950.00 please.

If any of you grind, speak to your dentist about a night guard. I will be getting one AFTER this work is complete. It will save more damage from occuring.

So, my suggestion to you is that if you or your children/spouse have the night grinding, please check out the night guard. It will save money in the long run, plus a LOT of pain.

Gawd, are they up to $950??? I think all of my vulnerable teeth have been replaced, so I shouldn't have to endure too many more root canals, crowns and things. Hint: get that pain pill scrip filled right after you leave the dentist--by the time you need it, you won't feel like going out again. Luckily, we have dental insurance--but pays for only half.

Old Git,

I do have dental insurance as well. Actually, I have two, as I am also on my husband's plan from the .mil. With just my insurance, it would have cost me $450.00. They'll have to refigure the numbers with my husband's and let me know. Hopefully I'll get out with about $200.

Even if I had to pay it all, I would. Oh, he has already given me some pain medication, and it isn't working too well. Plus some penicillan to keep it from becoming infected.

The worst part about all of this is that I am on a complete liquid diet until then. I am about to starve, even though I'm drinking liquid meals. They just don't fill up the stomach as well. Funny, I have a feeling that after the work is done that I won't want to eat. Wish I had eaten a big juicy steak.

If that is all you are being charged, you are getting off cheaper than I did the last time. This jerk of a dentist told me it would be $800 for the work to crown one of my teeth. Oh, darn, he thought I understood that was just for the crown, it would be another $800 for the root canal. Needless to say, he is no longer our dentist and we tell everyone what a jerk he is.

It irritates me that we don't have dental insurance and get charged higher prices because of it. I finally told one dentist that I would pay him only what he would get from an insurance company because I didn't like being ripped off. He took it, but refuses to do any more dental for us.

I have some work that needs to be done, but keep putting it off because of the cost.

Sheeple, try putting a piece of regular aspirin on/in the tooth that hurts. It should help for a little bit.

I've been thru that, too.

You have my heartfelt condolences.

I only had to wait for three days, but it was horrible.

I grind... had a night appliance made, which has helped immensely. Just make sure your dental insurance will cover the appliance before you have it made. Mine didn't, and the bill ran about $1200.
