Fatal Train Crash in Belgium

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - A head-on collision between two trains in central Belgium on Tuesday killed at least four people, a spokeswomen for the rail company said.

Some news reports put the initial death toll as high as 12, with dozens injured.

One of the trains was empty and the other was crowded with rush-hour passengers when they collided near the village of Pecrot on the line between the university towns of Leuven and Louvain-la-Neuve, said Leen Uyterhoeven, spokeswoman for the national SNCB-NMBS rail company.

The accident occurred around 20 miles east of Brussels.
