Camera Type (ZENOBIA)???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Hi, my name is J. Allen Wilson and I'm into photography pretty heavy. So much, that a buddy of mine brought me a camera that his father had owned and asked me about it. It looked like a Brownie type camera to me. The name on the camera was ZENOBIA model # 44910. Can anyone tell me anything about this camera? Where it was made, type film,etc.. It also had an attachment that looked like it may hold a fixed light. The name on the shaft was Cherry. I told him that I couldn't tell him anything about it, but I would go home and post the question. I hope that someone can give me some info on this type camera. Thanks

I have a Zenobia. Here's a photo of it: http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/collection2/page9.html

It is a 6 x 4.5 cm folder, a good quality copy of a Zeiss Ikonta A. It takes 120 film, producing (16) vertical frames on a roll. The lens and shutter are both quite good - pretty amazing since I don't think you'll ever see any other Daiichi Optical products (unless you find a Zenobia-Flex). these are not too uncommon, they come up on ebay occasionally and aren't too expensive. It's a terrific, compact entry into medium format.

the Zenobia was a relatively early postwar Japanese product, made about 1950.
