Try using REI's house brand sunblock. It works well, doesn't feel oily, and doesn't sweat off. However, if you plan to do any in water activity, swiming, snorkeling, etc.. use something else (bullfrog). For some reason it does NOT stay on in water, I've had the second degree sunburn to prove it.

This is only a thought, but perhaps you've just been applying it all wrong. What you may need is for a seasoned self proclaimed expert to rub the creamy sunblock into your freckled pores. Just so happens that I know a self proclaimed lotion rubbing expert who'd be more than willing to... (yep) lend a hand. Let me know. Toodles dahlink.

I use SPF-45, a pink plastic bottle that says it's for babies (Walmart carries it). If it's good enough for them (like baby food), then it's good enough for me. It's a thick white paste, but it will protect you.

Do you run in the daytime? I almost always run later in the day, 5-7pm depending. If during the day, I run on a shady path.

After having about three sunburns (serious physical, emotional, mental trauma) I finally learned my lesson. I avoid being outside when it is sunny almost all the time - to the point of paranoia. I use sunscreen heavily and stayed clothed if I am to be outside for a long time, wear a hat, etc.

It still amazes me how people can just lay on the beach for hours at a time. Their skin will turn to leather as they age. At least at the end of the day you can have the comfort of sleeping in your bed at night and not having that agonizing sensation of burnt skin. I also found it annoying to have a sunburn and being in public - people stare - argh...

Yes, I have freckles and I like them fine. 'Course, I'm not so speckled with freckles as to look like a spotted animal; in that case, I might wish for fewer. As a redhead, I try to avoid spending much time outdoors for prolonged periods during the sunniest times of day. I don't run, but I speedwalk in Central Park, and I always go out either very early in the morning (as if!), or, typically, later in the afternoon/evening, like Chris above, usually between four and seven, or later during the longer days of summer. Stupidly enough, I rarely bother to put on sunscreen. I trust in the slanting sun of the late day to be less a peril to me. Plus, I'm only out for a bit over an hour. These folk who persist in tanning themselves -- despite all we know about the sun's damage to skin, and the rising skin cancer rates -- astonish me. Besides, it's the most boring damn thing to do in the world, just laying in the heat of the sun. Ugh.

Chris, I think you underestimate the power of denial of the smoker.

I work at a hospital, and every day I walk past the smoking shelter outside my building. It's usually about half patients (many clearly undergoing chemotherapy and hooked up to IV poles) and half staff. I don't know which is more shocking.

Go to your dermatologist and have them bleached. It worked for me. Then wear sunblock and enjoy life much more. I did. It still remains a battle though.

As a redhead, I'm less freckled than many, especially after a decade of staying out of the sun, but I do have them. They come out with a vengence if I'm in the sun, and I even get them on my lips. I actually quite like them, but then I'm into the pale freckled redhead Irish girl look.

I've experimented with many many sunblocks. Sunblock doesn't really prevent freckling in my experience, but I do know some very good ones. I would willingly pay tribute to whoever finally got sunblocks to SPF 30 and 45 - they probably don't make a difference to those with regular skin tones, but for my relatively fair skin (I burn in about 20 minutes midday, but can get a tan if I do it slowly) they have made a huge impact. I can finally spend all day out in the sun without getting any hint of a burn. Not to sunbathe mind you, but even just going siteseeing or walking around outside all day in the summer would be dangerous without the 45.

Anyway, to my point. The best waterproof, sweatproof blocks I've found are Neutrogena (can't remember the specific name), Coppertone Sport, and Shade (also a Coppertone product). Neutrogena has a new one that is oil-free that I am just trying out on my face, and it is the least greasy feeling real block (versus moisturizer with sunscreen) I've ever tried. I think you need to experiment though, because everyone's skin seems to react a little differently to the precise combination of ingredients in different brands.

Yeah, I've tried the Neutrogena sunblocks, but they make my skin sting for some reason. I now use the Coppertone Sport SPF 48, and it works pretty well, but it does feel a bit stickier than the Neutrogena.

Just wanted to add that I recently tried the Banana Boat for faces and sport versions, and they both seem effective and *much* less greasy (no sticky shine, yay) than anything else I've ever tried. I don't know about the water/sweatproof-ness yet of the sport version, though.

I have freckles and I really like them :) I went through a phase of hatred and wishing I didn't have them....but these days I truly appreciate them. I only have them on my face and some on my shoulders. I get so many compliments. I think that most of the people who don't like freckles are people who HAVE them. Most people without them, like 'em. I am a tennis player, so I spend a lot of time in the sun and I am very paranoid about skin cancer. Because of my complexion, I use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30....but usually 50. Freckles rule!!!!

WOW. Can youreally have these suckers bleached?? Hey, I've never added to one of these things before but thought i'd try! I have many freckles, and im' a redhead, deep red i guess, BUT i don't burn very easily. Hi I get lots of freckles too, mainly on my cheeks, a few on chin and forehead but only in summertime. They completely go in the winter but it's probably because I have dark brown hair naturally. Personally, I HATE THEM!! If I could peel off my skin to get rid of them, I would. I especially hate them when I go out in the sun. There's no hope. At least I haven't had any luck.

I've heard of "Photo Rejuvination." Supposedly it will drammatically lighten if not remove the pigmentation of the freckles. I'm still researching it. If I find more information or actually do the process I'll get back to this site and post.

Like someone said earlier. The people who have them, hate them. And the people who don't or have a few, love them. I feel like a spotted cheetah.

Hi..I just surfed into this site while looking for info about freckles. Unless they are cancerous or otherwise malignant, I think freckles are extremely, very, very cute! The more freckles to me, the better..but that's just my opinion. I don't have many freckles except when I am in the sun a lot in summer, but I don't understand why people hate them so much. It seems, like a statement I saw above, that it is mostly people who have them who dislike them. To me, freckles are a part of someone's individuality, just like skin color, body type, etc. I sincerely hope African-American people, or Asian, or Latino, or people of any race or color, aren't going out looking for ways to change their skin color with cremes, lotions,or surgery (one Michael Jackson is enough!). So why should someone with a lot of freckles. I would never reject a certain person based on her not having freckles, but having freckles is a big plus, the same way other features are for other men. I had a huge crush on Tami Erin (Pipi Longstocking) when I was about 12..when that movie came out in the 80's. Well that's my opinion. I have freckles. I hate them. I won't even date a guy with freckles. I only have them on my face, legs, and arms but I want to get rid of them. When I was younger my bestfriend's mom was a cosmotologist. She said when I turned 18 that she would do a "face peel" or something for me for free. All you freckled people out there! Hello! You people really have distorted body images. I believe that freckles are spontanueous and make you a unique individual. They are "sun kisses" hence my email address sun_kissd_17@webtv.net. lol I have dark brown hair but right now it's kinda auburn orangy. I'm 50% hawaiin from my dad but I didn't get his skin color at all. I have extremely fair skin and I hate how pale I look in the morning. But there's a reason for everything. It's because when you just get out of bed your blood needs to circulate to make your skin look and feel alive. As well as every freckle on your body. You were created that way why change yourself. I love my freckles. All you people who are disagreeing with me I know how you feel. I used to be like you. I have tons of freckles ranging from really light to dark. I'd get picked on alot. They made me feel uncomfortable at first but then I learned to love them thanx to my boyfriend. He made me realize that I was beatiful on the inside and out. oops spelling I know he wouldn't lie to me. But unless something is cancerous then you should get it removed. If you can't stand getting more where a sunblock with a high spf. I rather freckle than burn. I know what it's like I have them everywhere. I even have one on my lip and I think it's kinda sexy. It makes you stand out. So don't hide them show them. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Learn to love yourself or waste your whole life hating yourself.

Hi! Just reading the responses and I thought I'd write one too. I have dark brown hair and freckles and avoid the sun when I can. I also go thru phases where I don't like my frecles and would love to have clear skin, but I think I wouldn't like them to be gone forever. I am considering have them removed in the future but I'm unsure. Do these removal techniques take them away for good or do they come back? I've tried a freckle-fade cream but it doesn't really work. Greetings yall!

That was an interesting variety of answers, but it seems the majority of people are okay, or fancy freckles. Take me for an example, I have around 50 freckles (i have too much time on my hand) on each cheak, and although i picture myself a much better looking guy without them, there is nothing I can do, either than to do those senseless laser therpapy.

I'm always embarassed when i'm in a crowd, i guess i think that i'm too important, but i get this feeling that i'm the odd one out, and everyone just seems to be glaring at me. I get teased often, and to be perfectly honest, i really don't like them on me, and i'm going to do laser therpapy to change my outlook and refresh my personality. My freckles are a barrier to me.

I wish more of you had mentioned your ages. I used to HATE my freckles as a kid - I thought they made me look freakish. I really only have them on my nose and cheeks, and some on the tops of my shoulders - which didn't show up until I was about 35 - with only a very few anywhere else on my body. But as I've gotten older I've wished they were more prominent- they have faded as I've aged, partly because I stay out of the sun I guess. I'll be 40 this September and I have come to realize that with my freckles (as in, when I have spent adequate time in the sun during recent summers to have nice, visible ones) make me look much younger! So, Praise to Freckles! I wish I had spent that energy I used feeling lousy about them as a kid on something more positive! ...Maybe I'll hang out at the beach tomorrow for a boost.

I'm a light skin black and I have freckles. I never paid much attention to them until I started getting zits as an adult. I've tried to use fade creams, but they break me out. So I just try to keep my skin clear of blemishes instead of trying to get rid of the freckles. I also have what I call my "milky way galaxy" on my right hip; a cluster of freckles! As a teen I counted them once and got up to about 60 something and lost count. Now at 44 I could care less! (smile)

Hi Brittney! I've found that the best way to have nice tanned legs is just to use a fake tanning milk on them. Skin cancer is such a problem here in Australia and I know I'd rather have nice healthy looking skin when I'm 40 than have to go getting spots cut out of me like many of my family have had to. If you mix the tanning stuff with some moisturiser, it makes for a more even result, makes the tanner go a bit further and produces a more gradual, even result. It probably won't hide the freckles completely if they are dark, but will blend them into your skin more so they don't stand out so much. It's probably not much use telling u a brand, as you're probably in another country, but I use the Ambre Solare ultra natural one (also on my face) and people just think it's a natural tan (I have heaps of freckles too :) Anyway, good luck, love Jacqui.

I used to hate my freckles when I was younger because kids were cruel and would make rude remarks about them. As I became an adult I began to love my freckles, every single one. On my face on my left cheek I have a gruop of freckles in the shape of a well known constalation, the big dipper. It is very neat. If you are one of those people who does not like your freckles I ask you to take another moment and look at them because freckles are beautiful and so are you.

Hey all. I hate my freckles so much. I'd do almost nethin' 2 get rid of them. I've got totally uneven pigmentation that made me get freckles on my elbos and knees and some scattered around my skin. my parents say "why don't u just let your skin get eposed to the sun to get the freckles evened out?" but i don't want freckles, i just want clear skin! i am so shy and don't know what to do. Freckles are ruining my life! I really hated my freckles when I was a kid. I used to get teased constantly about them, and tried everything to get rid of them. Now that I'm older I seem more freckled than ever. My face, arms, chest, and back are covered with freckles. Once Summer comes, and I'm out in the sun, my freckles come out like crazy. Even though I'm more freckled now, then when I was younger, I've grown to actually like them. Although I still get teased occasionally, I get lots of comments how young the freckles make me look, and plenty of girls tell me how sexy they think my freckles are !

This is a REAL answer... I don't know if my other one got through but someone else messed with that. I have tons of freckles and kind of like them. I'm more frustrated by them though because I have them all over my shoulders, face, and arms: practically the only parts of me that see sun. I didn't know how to get rid of them until now seeing this site. I guess they can be OK but people say they make girls look cute. I don't want to look cute though, I want to look pretty but I never will because I'll always be "cute" since I have freckles. I'm glad I finally found a site though where people talk about freckles and whether they like theirs or not. I know I should be happy with the person that I am but I'm the only one in my family with freckles! I don't even have very blond hair, more of a dark blonde. It's interesting to see other people's responses about freckles and ways to get rid of or appreciate freckles. I guess with age, you appreciate your freckles more.

Hey Everyone I know what all of ya mean! I usually hate my freckles, i have always wanted clear skin. But like someone said, God made us all individually and he loves us all for what we are like on the inside. Alot of people love my freckles and think they make me look cute and pretty, but i hardly ever see myself like that. I asked my mum to buy me some sort of cream to fade them, she said she will see. I hate my freckles the most when its sunny and hot and everyone can see them standing out!! I have dark brown eyes, strawberry blonde hair, and orangey kind of freckles. I have high cheek bones and my freckles kinda follow the shape of them. I like my freckles on my cheeks, but i hate them on my forehead and arms! I only have a few on my legs, but since i freckle easily, that means i am pretty fair skinned. But i will grow to love them. Hey people, I'm almost 100% Danish, thus i have basically lighter skin...though not very very light, and it tans well. But light enough to freckle. I dont even know if you would call them freckles, some are tiny specs, most very light. But anyhow, looking around I found this entry in another board "mix a full super light skin lotion bottle with 2 tro 8 (depennding on size and amount of freckles) onces of 100% citric acid. mik in a blender for 10 minutes. heat up in microwave or stove on super low for 1 minute. apply to face and leave on for 11 hours. rinse of with very cold water and the stay in the shade for the rest of the day. repeat this for 5 days and then your freckles will premenitly be gone." I havnt tried it yet myself, but hell...if your desperate, maybe you should give it a try. Personally my freckles dont bother me a bit. I guess I dont really have enough to care much.

Hi everyone. I've been reading some of these answers and I can't help notice that many of you seem very self-consious about your freckles. I've noticed that many people (usually the girls) are experimenting with creams and laser surgery, which can always give you weird results and cost too much. I have an idea: I'm a photography major and have been working with photos of people for years now, and I've discovered, among other things, a way to remove freckles from someone in a photo. It looks pretty realistic, and doesn't take too long to do. Of course, I can also add plenty of freckles, but I don't think that's what you want ;). I think it's better to see how you would look without freckles before you go trying out ways to remove them. I've noticed that in a lot of cases, certain people look better with freckles than without. Make sure the photo shows your freckles well, of course, and maybe I could remove them.

well i consider myself luckier then most frekled people as i only have them on my cheeks forehead and a few light ones round my chin am also quarter caste what helps conceal them more , and to tell you the truth....i hate this ...disease! so bloody much!!! i dont care if girls find them cute , i dont like them i cant stand looking in the mirror and seeing these scars on my face this skin disorder and i really feel penatrated and my brain molested when i hear u people say u like them , it sickens me. if i could i would cut these pixi marks off. i heard about bleaching and i was quite pleased there was a technique that can get rid of this handicap , but unfortunetly my parents wont pay 4 the treatment i was seriously contemplating a couple of weeks ago of tieing a rope to my banister and threatening to hang myself if they wouldnt pay , i feel raped and insulted when somone tells me they like freckles it makes me want to bust there lip would any consider sponsering me so i can rise enough money to have these fuckers surgically removed? and girls with freckles....dont even get me started on that ,lets just say they should be all rounded up and thrown into an incenerater with the exception on my mother ..... ...fuck it throw her in to, oh and that girl a bit earlier who said she takes the piss out of "freckled freaks" let me tell you ...you said somthing about my freckles to me, i would bust of you so much the ambulance will be scraping your remains up with a shovel. To PJ, yes there ARE lots of models with freckles now...they are gracing the covers of more and more major magazines and starring in ads. And to Jordan, I think people who call people names are the WORST kind of ugly. People who tease are only trying to draw negative attention away from themselves. Your diseased attitude is ugly.

I am a very freckled redhead with THREE redheaded, freckled children, and they are gorgeous. I never thought much of my freckles one way or another until I met someone who LOVES freckles. I don't see freckled people as any more beautiful than un-freckled ones, perhaps because I don't focus so much on looks. But I can say that I now see what it is about freckles that attracts some people so.

To those of you, especially the younger posters, who hate your freckles, I want to tell you something. People like icky old Jordan who teases freckled people are out there. You can safely assume that they are likely arrogant, yet insecure bootyholes who will end up as adulterers and generally unlikeable fellows if they don't make major changes in themselves. YOU ARE MORE THAN YOUR SKIN. The best parts of you are the parts nobody sees. But you should take time with your freckles, notice other people with freckles, and don't look at them with a closed mind. Find things to appreciate about freckled people, including yourself, and you will begin to admire them, maybe even love them.

I think if there's one thing I could get the teens here to do, it would be to learn how to recognize those mean people for what they really are...they are unhappy with themselves, so unhappy that they need to make you miserable, too. Don't buy into it. Tell them to grow up.

I highly recommend Yahoo's ForFreckleFansOnly Group (sorry, adults only). I believe the group owner posted here earlier. There really ARE people out there who love freckles. And I'm one of them!

Yes, I love my freckles, now because I have them. But if I had a clear face now, I'd love that too. I'm just glad I have a face!:) I've allways liked freckles though, I think they're pretty darn special. I have grown to treasure each and everyone, I take care of them as if they were my flock of sheep. When one is fading I rush outside to try and give it life again!
