What's with the French?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

What's with NUFC and links to every second rate french player? We aren't gonna be signing any more French players, surely after G'uivarch, Charvet, Domi, Dumas, Perez and Goma. We've learnt our lesson, So why are we still being linked with Laurent Robert (£8m PSG),

followed by Pierre_Yves Andre

and Frederic Nee also from Bastia.

Will some one tell the rumour merchants WE DON'T WANT THESE FRENCH PLAYERS.

A bit unfair there Rik. Guivarc'h wasn't here 5 mins and Perez was crap. It wasn't their fault that they were signed and nothing to do with being French. Charvet did a canny job for us and Ginola who you've not mentioned was brilliant.

As for the others, Goma didn't like living here (there's no accounting for taste) but conducted himself well and played with a good attitude, Dumas was possibly unsettled by the Gullit turmoil and cleared off home, only Domi conducted himself like a prize prat and players of his ilk (Anelka & others) should be banned by FIFA because they ROB the most important people in the game - us fans.

With any new players, especially foreigners, I would want more stringent checks on their personality and attitude. Can they adapt to life in the NE? Can they fit in with the existing players here etc etc. I think mistakes have been made in this area and they are such expensive assets that more care must be taken.

If there was ever a case for bringing a player in on loan it must be with our next major foreign signing. I doubt that the selling club would welcome that idea because they would want the cash.

What sort of checks can be done. If a player is being sold by a club he probably wants away anyway so he'll say anything for a move.

It worked OK with Saha. But sadly, we didn't offer him a permanent job.

Nee's scored 15 goals this season, and available for £5 million , but I wouldn't touch him with un pol de barge. Give us Matt Jansen any day of the week.
