water too hard?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

Hello everybody, I hope my question is not too basic. After I developed my film, I noticed that the film when it's completely dry is very stiff, so stiff that it becomes a little courved, I use HP5 / Xtol 1:1, maybe my water is hard? you think it can be a problem for the negatives? Thank in advance Stefano

Response to water to hard?

All film curls on drying, no matter what water it's been washed in. This is normal.
The only drawback to hard water is that it can leave white drying marks on the film. If you haven't got drying marks, don't worry, just print the film.

Response to water to hard?

Stefano, If your using heat, lower it. Maximum should be no more than 115F. Also if your using hardener for your film, you could dilute it more of just cut it out. This should help.

just make sure that you give at least 8hours of ambient-dryin to your film, that must hang vertically with some weight attached to their tale. (the lower one). oh, dont forget to use photoflo :)
