while I never had any specific quote, my support for a certain TSM was misplaced. Although it was certain he destroyed a great side, I'm pretty sure he didn't do this of his own volition, I'm pretty sure a dastardly duo of detested dumm-dumms had a hand in it.....

And he had a ship - no, an entire class of frigates - named after him for his trouble.

As a thank you to the good doctor who contributed to this thread , this week I shall include a medical "I wish I hadn`t said that", also its typically topical today , without further ado clutching my Frank Nordern clipboard , a small compilation titled `VACCINATION`

In June 1798 the British physician Edward Jenner published a pamphlet describing how he had immunized 23 patients against smallpox by vaccinating them with matter taken from cowpox postules. There was widespread belief that innicculation with material taken `hot from ye cow` would cause humans to develop animal characteristics.

[Cowpox does not]exercise any specific power against human small pox Prof Ed Cruikshank, King`s College, London 1889.

[Cowpox] was fancifully represented as an amulet or charm against smallpox by the idle gossip of incredulous persons wh listned only to the jingle of names.... `Let us suppose that the glowing end of a cigar be firmly applied to an infants arm...[sore may result which may be called cigar pox.... The cigar pox in its patholgy just as revalent to the small pox as the cowpx is.....Charles Crichton Medical historian 1889 on Jenner.

Jenner`s pioneering work was directly responsible for the saving of millions of lives . Now over 150 years after his death , small pox has been all but entirely eradicated.

Jacko, cannot accept your answer - goodbye - BTW the goalscorer for Bristol City -v- Your lot yesterday was one of our ex locals, Scott Murray, (ex Villa) , still young , if you see him play anytime would be interested in report.

-- Anonymous, April 01, 2001

Scott Murray is a very good player indeed. Very quick and skilful. Scored the goal yesterday by ghosting into space on the far post. I remember last season when Bristol played the Icelandic national team (aka Stoke City) in the Autowindscreens final at Wembley he ran the Sjoke defence ragged - unfortunately Bristol still lost.

And by the way - they are not "my lot" they are either "Mr Jacko's lot" or "my other lot"!!

Apologies indeed Jacko, in future your 2nd fav team, the rough trans- lation is "Where did these turkeys learn to write music anyway",is it?
