Thinking out loud

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

It's now March 25th,and more than six weeks have passed since we all sent our applications in to RDF.Andy said they got almost a thousand applications,so I have to wonder why we only see less than 10% of the applicants listed or even heard from on this board.I think Ron's list on his site is great, and can't understand why so many people wouldn't want their team at least listed there (that's got to be 800+!).I know I for one to would like to see an extremely big list.Maybe these applicants think it'll hurt their chances? Or perhaps they think they are not good enough? Or maybe fear of rejection would hurt thier image of self esteem..(that's California psyco-babble terms),who knows!I for one wonder about all those people who talked trash back in December and January about thier kick-ass skills and winning personalities.....was that all smoke? Maybe we can persuade all these lurkers into showing us who they are,and make Ron's list get big and fat.Since Andy told us it's going to be at least another four weeks (thanks Andy!!)until we know, let's hope these 800+ teams say at least SOMETHING,because it seems to keep everyone else halfway sane.We can only hope......

All those lurkers are keeping a low profile just to make you and other applicants "stew" in wonder. In a few weeks, you'll be bubbling over! Just think, all those hundreds and hundreds of teams which you know absolutely nothing about... :) Stay sane.

cheers,

Odds are a large percentage of the 800 or so entries have no clue this board exists. I don't know for sure about this time, but last time they advertised in a number of places for contestants. The Young Guns for instance, never saw the show and had no idea what it was. They just saw it as a chance to get a trip to England.

I'd have to agree with Jay on that point.I had no clue about this show until one of the RDF staff contacted me last year to make a team (unfortunatly I did not have the time to do it)about three weeks before the deadline.I have to admit I don't watch much television but this show has some meaning, where most programs are mindless dreck. The waiting bit doesn't really bother me,I just find it very interesting to see the varied backrounds of the prospective teams....just one more thing to read in the morning with my cup of mud.

I'll echo the thought that the teams not appearing here probably don't even know about the site. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to my knowledge Ron's page didn't exist until around the deadline. Some who visited the TLC site in Nov/Dec and got the application forms may have never returned and have no clue ........

Who's Right. The 10% that list, or the 90% that don't.Does majority rule?

How do you sign up on the list? My team is not listed anywhere that I know of. There really needs to be some organization to some of this. Is there a live chat room for teams? Just a few basic questions from the hills of Arkansas. Good Luck Teams,
