A Dream Within a Dream/need info fast

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

I was wondering more about the poem A Dream Within a Dream. At the end it says for Orpheus, Eurydice, Hermes. And Barbara with infinite love as I falter on the road to Ithaka, What does it mean? Who are these people? Wo is Poe talking to in the peom? I am reciting this poem for my class, and thought this information might make a good presentation that I have to do monday morning. If anyone could help me, sorry about the small span of time, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Jody

Jody,

I have sent you a summary via e-mail. Regretfully, I am unfamiliar with the version of which you speak and the e-mail summary deals with the version of this poem published in 1850 after his death. I hope you find it useful.

Regards,

Jody,

You have probably read the poem at Stefan Gmoser's website (http://bau2.uibk.ac.at/sg/poe/works/poetry/dream_wi.html) at a guess. The dedication you refer to is presumably his since it forms no part of Poe's work. Three of the characters are easy enough to figure out. Barabara is, I would think, a friend of Mr Gmoser.
