Epson self test??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A One Forum : One Thread

I have a Epson 580 stylus colour, it is connected by USB, the problem is that every time I shut down machine at night, the pc switches off then the printer starts up, moving up and down the bar like it does when you first install it. And sometimes when you print, it does it then for about 40 to 50 secs, it gets quite annoying, the only way I've stopped it is by pulling the plug and only plugging it in when I need it. Trouble is, when I plug back in it does the same. I can't believe the printer has to go through a test or whatever it is every time I switch off. Any ideas ? or am I worrying over nothing? Paul.

Hi Paul, unfortuately is an Epson trade mark, they will tell you it's benficial for this to happen and it also keeps the heads clean, there is ( as I understand it ) no way to by-pass this action, I'm afraid you'll just have to grin and bear it, in the knowledge, your print head is clean and will continue to give you top quality print, as only Epson can.

Many thanks Dave, at least I know that it is supposed to happen, I was not sure if it was a "Setting" error or something, or maybe I connected it wrong or something. Anyway, looks like I will have to put up with it as you say, thanks again for reply, Paul.
