I would like to see the teams build a backhoe. How to know who the winner is by how deep the hole is. Now I think that is a good idea for a show.

A backhoe is too dependant on hydraulics to be practicle for a show. You just don't find hydraulic cylinders and pumps in good working order laying about a scrap yard. Even if you had all of the stuff handy to make a backhoe, it would not make a crazy enough show. They want insanity, variety and most of all creativity.
