Vikings close to signing Reed

Pioneer Press

The Vikings appear close to an agreement with receiver Jake Reed, a former Viking released by the New Orleans Saints last month. The team has been in regular contact with Reed's agent, Mitch Frankel, on a one-year deal believed to be worth about $500,000, not including incentives. A league source indicated a deal could be completed soon, perhaps today. Reed also has drawn interest from New Orleans and the Dallas Cowboys. With Matthew Hatchette signing a two-year deal with the New York Jets, the Vikings are in the market for a third receiver, a position Reed previously held. Last season with the Saints, Reed caught 16 passes for 206 yards and no touchdowns. Reed was drafted in the third round by the Vikings in 1991. He was a salary-cap casualty last offseason. -- Sean Jensen, Staff
