So long, farewell, Auf...greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
Well, it's time to say goodbye to the BBS for me! I've been a permanent lurker and occasional contributor since the old BBS wasn't password protected (anyone remember Toonster?) However, I've now given in and sold my soul to the City (of London unfortunately - not Newcastle) so I am strictly prohibited to post any information or visit any site unrelated to work. Goodbye y'all, it was nice knowing you!

Good luck, Si! Screach is right, there's plenty of internet cafes around London. Stop by and say hi whilst sipping your coffee. :-)

Oh yes I remember Toonster. That wasn't you was it? I thought he was in Ireland. I recall my struggle to post my first message on the BBS (I think it said "Noah should be sacked" or some such thing) and because of various system problems I could only send about 2 lines of text and things were very messy. Finally I cracked it and sent a 6 line text message full of nonsense as a test. So my first response was a mouthful of abuse from Toonster for wasting people's time! I very nearly crept unhappily away for good (I'm a very sensitive soul) but decided to carry on.Not sure it was the right decision mind ... :-)
Good luck Si - you will find the streets of London paved withgolddogsh*t and it is de rigeur to have a PDA, and a laptop tossed carelessly into the back of the Mercedes, so I hope we hear from you again soon.

If you've gone from ic after a post-doc then the city will be paying you a few bob. I think that if you check the small print you are allowed to have a PC at home. On your salary you'll manage a Pentium 4 with all the add-ons-and the odd Porche.See you next week? Good luck. Are you modelling?

Good luck Si - but sorry, new job or not, we will be expecting you to find internet access somewhere.Looking forward to hearing how you`re enjoying the the new venture. (:o)

There are policies and policies. Wait and see when you get there - you'll probably be allowed a bit of leeway on personal usage of the internet, just like the phone (probably says you shouldn't use that for personal calls either).

All the best Si. I'm sure we won't lose you for good.

Good luck with the new job Si. I remember when I started mine last August I thought I wouldn't spend anytime on the net, now that's all I do!!!I hope nobody in my company is reading this!

You can take the man out of the BBS, but you can't take the BBS out of a man.
