The Vikings have received only mild response from supporters being solicited for private funding for a $515 million retractable dome stadium they will introduce with a model showing today. With time running out in the state Legislature for introduction of a stadium bill, the Vikings are eager to offer a stadium plan to the public, hoping it will attract interest. The rendering, done by the Ellerbe Becket firm of Minneapolis, shows portions of Mariucci Arena and Williams Arena in the background of the stadium, located on the University of Minnesota campus just northeast of Mariucci.
* Even though jersey No. 73, worn by Hall of Fame offensive tackle Ron Yary, is available for retirement, there's whispering that the next Vikings jersey to be retired this year will be No. 53, worn by former center Mick Tingelhoff. He started 262 games, an NFL record for an offensive player.
