Does anyone know what got Poe intrested in Poetry (inspirations)? And I need the types of Poetry (ex: Sonnets, Limerick, haiku, etc.) and why he write them. PLEASE!!! GIVE ME THIS INFORMATION SOON!!!! URGENT!!! This is for 3/4 of my final grade please help!

Dear Chris,

Edgar Allan Poe was very much inspired by the Romantics for his poetry (especially the English Romantics... I should mention Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley, Keats, Byron, etc.).

He wrote Sonnets, Prose Poems, free verse, and some other stuff, often coming up with innovations.

If you read the Harold Bloom book (see the post which refers to "The City in the Sea") you should be able to get more details about this. Sorry I cannot be of more help right at this moment:
