www.frii.com/~benji/goalkeeping/
www.1goalkeeper.com/coach.html (has some very detailed drills)
www.coachescorner2000.com/goalcoac.html

These are the first 3 to appear on the first page of the search when you put the phrase "Goalkeeper coaching " into the Google.com search engine. (Highly recommended - I love Google). It's quite handy this internet thingy isn't it? I can't vouch for the quality of these sites but they do seem to mention drills.

Thanks Jonno, Thanks for nothing Lonly.

I do not want to appear to take Galaxys "cyberplank" crown. I have used google before. I was just being lazy.

Last time I spent about 3 days worth of searching to find what I wanted. I thought that buff "being in the business" might have known of a useable site.

Do not let this put the rest of you off with suggestions, even Gav!!

You may unearth something I was not aware of.

PS Lonly the last bit does not apply to you!

Gus, Sorry for not getting back to you earlier , been off for four days , 2 of them good weather so managed to sneak in a couple of rounds of golf. I am not sure what age group you are looking for, if its senior Jonno`s reccomendations on Google sites will be the answer, (have not seen them yet) , if as I suspect it may be the `wee uns` you are requiring information for can I suggest the following -:

1..Write to the Australian FA explaining your requirements.

2..Australian schools sports ass (football)BTW You do live in Oz?

3..In the new spirit of communication write to NUFC training staff lay it on thick, exiled Geordie etc etc and it will be interesting to see if you receive any encouragment, Clarky will be kept ITK at all times on this one , (comms officer desgn)

4..Failing any of the above, let me know and I guarantee that I will get something out to you, from either the SFA or ourselves.

In the meantime couple of wee basic Buff tips, when you have 15 kids around you why is it the the poor fat one is nominated for goalie, try and avoid that one , the kid is isolated already. Never put kids in full size goals to train , heartbreaking , use road staffs if nesscary, always use correct size balls (down Screa)

Taking (always make it 2 ) kids aside for 3o mins specialised training makes them feel part of the set up. loads of training drills can be worked out by yourself, covering kicking, crosses, angles, (one on one , stop , check position), shot stopping, concentration, reading the game and opposing players, very import - speech play, show me a keeper who is quiet and he is a dodgy one. One thing you cannot give em is `bravery` either have it or not

Thanks buff. It is "seniors" I am after. I have a 19 Yo who has most of the prerequisites. He has been playing in goal for 8 years and not had any proper training.

I am trying to help him out. I have run through all the things taught to me and am now looking for some "extra" help. He needs to work on his left hand side, moving his feet and timing. These things I can handle. I need some thing I can show him on positioning for free kicks and generally where he should be for corners etc. It is no longer good enough to tell them that "that is where I am telling you to stand". Some theory stuff would be good.

I will troll through "google" and send some pleadings to YBR!

Gus, OK now we have established the age, experience of your keeper,The problem as I see it is, bearing in mind this position requires a specialised coach in the long run, can I suggest that you go forward with the suggestions listed, I could be wrong but if you receive any literature back, it may be of a complicated nature, diagrams detailing match situations that you will have to learn and pass on in training ,As enthusiastic as you are Gus, like me you are not a pro and I feel checking the good book will lead to your keeper becoming bored. As a interim measure can I suggest the following points that (a)may be benificial to your keeper, (b) will demonstrate to him your interest (c)Indicates a professional approach.* this is not out of any keepers bible, just from a 60 year Geordie football nut.

1...Required one video camera, two if possible, 6 players (wall etc)

2...Take a chalk line and from penalty spot mark out 2 arcs approx

5 yards/10 yards outside area, From narrowest angle right to narrowest angle left spot mark every 6 feet.

3... Keeper to form wall, take up position , indicate left or right footer taking kick, camera behind ball, if keeper cannot be seen

for wall , hold up bright coloured rod to indicate position.

Stop!, move on to next scenario, do not use adjacent spot, want

to hear the lad screaming to position wall. 4,,Show him the finished sequence, let him talk thro it , take

notes for each kick.

5..Angles, one on one, video attacker bearing down on goal, from

different areas to edge of box, stop , keepers position, move to

next. Let him go thro the video, express himself, notes/tape. Gus, that should now keep him ticking over for a while ,if the sequence is of good quality I am sure there is someone in Oz who will be qualified to go over it and advise.

Theory of it ??, Gus it is more about hard work, experience etc, and for the pros I would think doing their HOMEWORK on the other teams free kick specialists. I shall print this thread off and will mail to Jim Leighton (ex Dundee, Man Utd ,Aberdeen and Scotland keeper) who is goalkeeping coach at Aberdeen. He has Ryan Esson 19 under his charge along with David Preece (ex Darlington), I shall write an accompanying letter - plenty of irons in the fire., last resort MacBeth knows Gordon Marshalls dad (ex Toon), Best o luck Buff

What a humbling experience contributing to this bbs, no matter what some lurkers may think.

Will try all of the above. As I said I can demonstrate all these things to him, however by telling him that this was how I was taught has to be backed up with the theory that I do not have. I have coaching qualifications from the local FA, but as you say they do not cover specialist GK work.

Will await further developments. My gallowgate address is always open, waiting for entries!!

Once again thanks for your time and help.
