Lauren, The poem is not a story but a personal reflection on life. And for who he is speaking to, I think he is either speaking to God, his wife, or just to himself. About what he is trying to say, I think it's about the illusions of life like love, freedom, and hope being just that, just illusions that can't be achieved.. Or when they are achieved they are so great for us that everything seems almost dream like, which gives life a definition of nothing more than nothing. Not sure about the ryhme scheme. Sorry!
