Manchester United have approached Motherwell in a bid to sign goalkeeper Andy Goram on loan until the end of the season.

United have been hit by a goalkeeping injury crisis with both Fabien Barthez and Raimond van der Gouw out injured.

Motherwell's director of football, Pat Nevin, said: "Manchester United contacted us today but we have not come to an agreement on that yet.

"At the moment there is no agreement because we need him. He is our captain and our goalkeeper.

"But if the clubs can come to an agreement it would be fine."
