Matrox RT2000 Problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Below is my system configuration during installation:-

1) Motherboard = Asus CUV4X-D dual(running 1 processor, 1000 Mhz; it was created at first for running 2 processor) 2) RAM = 512Mb (4 x 128mb) 3) Hardisk = Quantum AS 30Gb hdd x 2 (formated) 4) OS = Windows 98 SE (clean installation) 5) RT2000 is located at PCI 3 (calculated from bottom) 6) Other PCI card = NONE 7) Adobe Premiere 6.0 8) Matrox Mega Pack 2.0 (PAL) 9) VIA 4-in-1 4.25(a)

After finish installation, i connect my DV camcorder (Thomson VMD2S) to RT2000 through firewire. The camcorder is detected and a popup dialog prompting confirmation to overwrite newer files, that are:-

1) kstvtune.ax 5.01.2258.400 2) kswdmcap.ax 5.01.2258.400 3) ksxbar.ax 5.01.2258.400 4) stream.sys 4.90.3000.400

I select to keep existing newer files. A "1394 DV Camcorder" is installed under [sound, video and game's controller].

I check the IRQ resources, and found the following:-

IRQ 3,4,5=free IRQ 10 = Matrox RT2000 IRQ 11 = TI IEEE controller IRQ 11 = Matrox G400

For your information, I have disable com port and USB to avoid IRQ sharing.

Next I start Premiere6, select preset "RT2000-DV" (I notice that the Matrox plug-in show-off dialog does not popup as in Mega Pack 3.0 PR1). I select "Matrox DV Device Control". Next I go to capture setting. Capture setting is "RT2000 Capture". When I click on "Video Input", Premiere freezes about 20 seconds until the setting window popup. The default setting is "Composite". When I select "DV-1394", Premiere freezes about 25 seconds until the OK button can be activated again. After clicking "OK", it freezes for 20 seconds to close the "RT2000 video input settings" window. This is definitely wrong somewhere.

After that I open the movie capture window (I notice that when I move the capture window, Premiere will freeze for about 15 seconds with the still image of capture window at previous location).

I click on the "play" button with device control, and the camcorder is activated. However, I cannot see anything on the capture window. I try to click on "record" button, and when I click "stop" (or ESC or any other buttons), it won't stop immediately and premiere will freeze for 40 seconds until a dialog box popup prompting for file name. A captured file is now in the BIN. However, the file is unworkable because the size is less than 0.1 second regardless of how long I record.

I try another approach to capture using logging method. When I click on "Capture In/Out", it takes about 15 seconds to activate the camcorder to rollback and play 6 seconds earlier than Set-In time and start to record (the button is pressed automatically). When it reaches Set-Out time, the "play" button is automatically pressed, but Premiere will freeze for 40 seconds and the camcorder continues playback until the file name dialog box pop-up. After all, I close the capture window and Premiere freezes for 30 seconds. However, this time a file with exactly duration is seen in the BIN. I check in explorer and a 72Mb avi file (20 sec) is created. I drag the file into timeline, but everytime it immediately jumps to 00:00:00:01 when i click playback, regardless where I start. That means I cannot see movie during capturing and editing. I export the file straight away, using Mpeg2 I-frame, and the rendering window appear. This time I can see the "movie" while the timeline drags along during rendering. After rendering, a big movie window pop-up, but no playback. Premiere freezes for 30 seconds when I close the movie window.

I check in explorer and a 58mb avi and 3.76mb wav files are created. I use DVDit 2.2 to add the files inside. When I play the avi file, the timeline goes but no movie display, and DVDit becomes very slow to respond or freeze for a while upon clicking.

In conclusion, RT2000 cannot work because the file created is unreadable, and above is the details of describtion. Other softwares like PowerDVD also fail to play the file.

I have read in Adobe website about Premiere6 does not support Texas Instrument IEEE 1394 controller, and apparently RT2000 is using a TI controller. Does that mean matrox capture is no longer possible under premiere6?

Furthermore, I try to connect an S-Video input into the breakout box. Capture setting is S-Video. but nothing happen in capture window. This happens to be the same with composite input. I have tried to install Megapack 3.0 PR1 under win2000 (clean installation on other hardisk). The same problem as above if Matrox Capture is used under "1394 DV Camcorder". BUT if "Microsoft DV camera" is used under Imaging devices, and use adobe preset PAL-DV capture, everything works fine except for matrox real-time plugin cannot work. But composite and S-video capture still not possible.

Please advice, is this appear to be configuration problem or Matrox hardware failure(damage?) I have reach the end of my ability. Prior to this I have refer to many resources regarding RT2000, either in forum or other websites.
