Resorves v Aston Villa

Not much of a game so not much of a report this week!

I arrived at KP early, just in time to get a photo of Diego Gavilan as he came out onto the pitch to warm up. And a warm up was definitely needed - it was bliddy freezing!

Line -up:
1. John Karelse
2. David Cowan
3. Stephen Glass
4. Ryan McGuffie
5. David Beharall
6. Mark Boyd
7. Diego Gavilan
8. Jamie McClen
9. James Coppinger
10. Pablo Bonvin
11. Pedro Dimas

12. Lomana LuaLua
13. Colin McMenamin
14. Peter Wright
15. David Rayner

Nobody of note in the Villa side. The referee was again A Hogg who was cr*p when we played Blackburn. No sign of YBR - in fact Nicos Dabizas was sat in Bobby's usual seat in the stand!

Not a great game to watch. We had more shots in the first half but nothing came of them. Interesting to see Dimas and Boyd taking the corners rather than Gavilan. About 30 minutes into the game Bobby turned up (just back from London?) and stood at the back for a while before finding a seat. A bad tackle on one of our players was waved away by Mr Hogg, who booked Glass in the second half merely for wearing a black and white shirt.

Half time, and the now traditional dash to the upstairs bar and loo. Bobby and a number of suits headed into the boardroom. Nobody followed me out of the loos this week, but Daniel Cordone and Peter Beardsley were around.

Second half Villa upped the pace. They scored a scrappy goal. Dimas went off for LuaLua who showed some nice touches and a few crowd pleasing moments where he wriggled free of the defenders who were doubling up on him and came away with the ball. Unfortunately nobody had their shooting boots on and all wanted to take 3 more touches (McClen especially guilty of this) and pass the ball to somebody else. The temperature dropped further and the game rather petered out. Bobby had only been out briefly for the second half - he didn't miss much.

Thankyou Steph - no Dougal tonight?

Sounds like an uninspiring game - you only managed to say something decent about the one player LuaLua so presumably the rest were nothing to write home to the bbs about.

Nice to hear of Pedro's presence. Also good to know that Cordone takes an interest. I see that the Mackems are heading this league at present. We sometimes used to read good news on here I remember ...

And there was me constantly hitting the update button on the Resorves v Villa tonight thread. Aah might have guessed there'd be a new thread. Such is life - throw away society instead of re-using precious resources.

So, the chance of a double this season seems to be rapidly disappearing into the distance.

Do I take it Glass was playing FB? Why - when he clearly has no future on Toonside?

PS. Thanks for the report, Steph. PPS. Aah bet it's colder here tonight than there!

No bright spots breaking the unremitting gloom from KP then Steph?
Many thanks for the report. I did think about going, but they didn't come to see me when I was bad (yes I know - the old ones are the best!).

Glad to know there's at least one ref still booking our players for wearing b & w and playing(or at least attempting) football. I was beginnning to think even the refs were feeling sorry for us. Thanks for the report, STeph! No sign of the mystery London signing, or whatever it was, then?

According to NUFC.com Delia Smith was at the match last night. Now you don't get Delia Smith at Kingston Park for no good reason on a cold night. Norwich City after one of our players?

With Robson walking around with other suited people should we expect a deal to be done in the next day or two?

Imagine Midas and TeamTalk's headlines following Delia's visit. Newcastle to sign another pudding

Recipe for disaster

Delia for Chairperson

You may think so Geordie, but I couldn't possibly comment! ;-{)

If Glass was playing left back last night was Bonvin playing left wing. How did he do?

-- Anonymous, March 21, 2001

Teamtalk say that Bonvin was the star man, going close with two efforts in the first half. Given that NUFC.com don't mention Bonvin in their summation, could Teamtalk actually has someone at the match!
