Stationary Decoders for Switch Machine Control

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Wiring for DCC : One Thread

I am building a new HO layout, 5x12, with 8 Atlas #6 turnouts. I have the Atlas Commander DCC system. Atlas does not offer accessory decoders. What are my options for DCC control of these 8 switch machines? Is there a web page that illustrates wiring for stationary decoders for switch machines?

On a layout that small there is little need for anything more than manual pushbuttons. But if you really want automation, I suggest using the CVP model AD4H accessory decoder. This can be controlled via DCC commands or user supplied pushbuttons. See www.cvpusa.com. Also written up in the September 1998 issue of Model Railroader magazine. Tony's Train exchange, www.ttx-dcc.com, also has an evaluation comparison of accessory decoders.
