Glass leaving?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

From Nufc.com Speculation this morning in the Scottish press that Stephen Glass is set to return North of the border to his hometown of Dundee. The winger, 25 in May, has been told by Bobby Robson that he has no future on Tyneside

Surely a sign that if you've got a left foot and you put in a transfer request in the past then your knackered in Bobby's eyes. Was Given let off because he's right footed?

sorry deb, but i'm with bob on this, glass never really broke into the first team, never really in the frame, for him that must be a pane.he has just sat there with that glazed expression, having said that he must be shattered that he hadn't seen this coming. the cracks appeared when he heard denilson was being lined up for the summer...whoops did i just let that out?

Think you're being a touch shard there swift, hope he reflects well on his time with us :-)

6 goals from 28 starts. Didn't hear anyone saying he was shite when he equalized against Manchester United over Christmas. Cruelly underused player. He's been kept out to allow others to play out of position with less scoring success. Beats me.

With Glass in the side we would have more balance and a real chance of getting some decent balls in from somewhere other than centrally or the right hand side.

Playing Glass would have meant dropping Solano or Dyer but that may not be such a bad thing.

Glass's inclusion would also have meant we could play with two central midfielders who a)knew their roles and responsibilities b) could concentrate on doing the dirty work in the centre and c) Would have the chance of a rest every now and then.

Playing central midfielders on the left side of midfield obviously doesn't work and quite why one of the most highly regarded coaches in Europe if not the world cannot see this is beyond me. Even playing Solano or Dyer on the left would have been a better option. At least they have a bit of pace etc

I only hope this aspect of our confused and unbalanced midfield is sorted out in the summer.

If we were going to keep him, we should have played him. If we are not going to play him, he might as well go and resurrect his career somewhere else.

No doubt we will in the fullness of time draw Dundee in this Inter-Mickey-Mouse Cup, and he predictably will murder us.

Sigh.

Total mystery to most of us - and yet while we believe he is a good player there hasn't exactly been a queue of Clubs lining up to sign him.
Surely he can perform at a higher level than Dundee?

Yes a mystery to me as well. Good skilfull player - on the few chances he had he did well and deserved to be tried a bit more. Maybe there are other issues involved - he could have negotiated a pre- season deal since January and nobody came for him.

Or to follow on with Swift's theme - I'm really broken over this. It's transparently obvious that Glass bottled it. We had a window of opportunity to sell him and now he's blown away. On his own he was good - a pair of them would have been a spectacle (that's quite enough of that thankyou - Ed).
