Double imaging problems with TMPGEnc 12 c and 12d

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

If anyone is having trouble with playing TMPGEnc 12cd encodes in a standalone DVD player where two screen images appear then it is a problem generated by the template changes that occurred between 12ab and the 12cd.

If your using VCD encodes you may get this in PAL only as the NTSC template was not modified - cannot understand why that was so. It certainly can and does happen in SVCD and maybe even DVD. Not all player systems suffer from the fault but the generated mpeg encodes are actually wrong and need to be changed.

Eric Bouly from Canada has posted a fix (16 March 2001) on a temporary web site for this. After getting back from 2 weeks holiday I have now incorporated the fix into my templates pack as of 17 March 2001.

The new pack is available from the SVCD page or Links page of my web site:

The readme file and my SVCD page gives details of the changes necessary to fix the problem. TMPGEnc must have some other process option in mind that resulted in the two additional lines in the mcf files that have proven to be the source of this problem.

Even NTSC SVCD encodes using TMPGenc 12c/d templates had this double imaging problem. The fixes for existing MPEG-2 files, as well as the modified templates to prevent this work very well, thank you.

Please note ERIC has updated his fix for existing encodes to 12c and 12d and that is now available for downloading from my web site as well. He may well now remove his temporary page now that I am back and up and running again.
