Just try reading it. You might like it. Really, reading is not evil. You can do it. Poe is as good a place as any to start if you want to read something for yourself. After you read a great story like Tell-Tale Heart, try something less intense like Pit and the Pendulum. Besides, Tell-Tale should not bother you if you do not have a heavy conscious.
