Monday, March 19 - the day of reckoning

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MATH : One Thread

Hey.

An Bei! Did you forget to tell me about a certain phone call to a certain person you made from the bathroom at Momo's?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Answers

Ooh - I want to know about this cell phone call!

Joh, this is not a day of reckoning. Don't worry. At all. And if there is reason to worry, I gotcha back.

How were y'all's weekends?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

And, you won't get kicked off the internet. Period.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Mike, baby, you know I love you. But please explain how you "slam your heads to the floor." I thought that Bermanation was a family website.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Mike - I was wondering that too!

I know I won't get kicked off the internet, but I don't think I'll be posting on squishy anymore. Obviously.

I feel better today. Sleeping in my own bed was awesome.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Joh, how are you feeling?

So, does Pamie know? And really, does she have any, any reason to be pissed? She's the one who was Jimmy Cartering all over Stee, after all. It's not a perfect world, but she just needs to suck it up and find solace in Stee's Hollywood (did y'all know he lived in Hollywood??!) arms.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

You didn't know they lived in the same city?

I don't think she has a reason to be "pissed," per se, but I do think she has a reason to be hurt/upset. I mean, I'd be.

They are broken up. They are dating other people, but it's always easier when you're the one dating and your ex isn't.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Which is not to say that Eric and I are "dating," because we're not, but you know what I mean.

Is Mike on nights?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I was being sarcastic about the Hollywood thing. Since in, like, every entry, Stee either drops names like they're anvils, or talks about how he lives in Hollywood.

I know you can't get an accurate picture of someone from just their website, but I never, ever liked him. Ever. Name-dropping cad.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I just think name-dropping is tacky, period. Like if you're from Houston, and you're all, "Oh, I was at Tootsie's on Thursday, buying a dress for the Symphony Ball, and there was Lynn Wyatt! Now, we didn't talk, because we're on conflicting committees for the Rodeo Ball, but you know that Lynn Wyatt!..."

I mean, seriously, does Stee have to talk about what's-her-face-the- girl-from-Chasing-Amy who lived across the street from him in every third freaking entry?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Mike's on nights.

Girl, AB didn't call pamie from Momo's. Pamie called my cell phone while we were in the bathroom, and since I was uh... indisposed... AB talked to her. She made that joke about "I had a dream that Eric and Hannah hooked up blah blah blah" and AB was like "uh..." and changed the subject. Please.

Then we tried to call Berman, and he didn't hear his phone, and then he tried to call us, and the Ghetto Cell blew up yet AGAIN.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Oh, wait - actually Mike's off until Wed, but he said he'd be in today around one to do some fantasy baseball stuff.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Only Hannah called me. Wah.

Fantasy baseball? Chris goes to the draft party on Saturday - a pack of attorneys fighting over players in a 50th-floor conference room. It's the one time a year Chris allows himself to dip (that I know of, at least). He's not as concerned as I am about his lip falling off.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

T - I wish I had had your number. I know it's 1-something-I AM TERI. I would have loved to have called you from some of these shows. The music we heard this weekend could have filled a lifetime.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

404-931-TERI. My cousin is 512-IAM-ANNA. I bet the music was just fantastic. Johnny Cash was there?? But, Jazz Fest awaits, at least.

We bought cd's this weekend - Allison Moorer, who I like a lot - The Hardest Part is all about her momma and daddy - Spy Boy, Another Keb Mo, Agents of Good Roots, and one that I can't remember right now.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

No, this band called The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash was there. They were the last band we saw. Totally fantastic.

Yes, I really like that Allison Moorer, too. She's good. (I mean, not as good as Shelby, but, you know.)

I have a new love, by the way. Hannah can tell you - we saw this chick named Greta Gaines and she was great. Her cd... not so good... but she was hot and played the hell out of a guitar and sang like a whiskyfied angel. Love!

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Greta Gaines - is she from Atlanta? That name sounds familiar. Maybe she was at Music Midtown last year.

Allison is different from Shelby, more than I expected - you can tell she stayed in Nashville. You've got to love the banjo and the mandolins, though.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Only 11 a.m., and already, a L_L.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Actually, Allison sounds a lot like Shelby used to sound. The traditional country sound, which I love.

You know Shelby calls her "Sister," in interviews, right? I love it. God, they were so poor and lived such awful lives - it's amazing what they've done for themselves.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

You ain't no L_L, T.

I'm going to a meeting. Will be back after that.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

She calls her "Sister"? That's the best thing, ever.

It's people like Shelby and Allison who cause me to have little pity for people who fuck up their lives, and then blame it on their parents. We choose our lives.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Morning, MATHletes! Mad Madeleine's out of school this week, and is already bored.

H, I did not forget to tell you anything, girl, because there was nothing to tell. Pamie, clearly, is Miss Cleo of the Psychic Pam Network. I went, "Uh...", and then she asked to speak to Allison.

Not only did I make you sick, Han, but Meredith has the crazy AB fevah, too. I'm mailing her antibiotics.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I'm back.

AB, Meredith has the Clazy AB Fevah because SHE LEFT YOU TO DIE ON THE STREET. That's what happens to people when they leave a 95 pound drunk lady to uh... DIE ON THE STREET. The Ass Fevah sets in.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Yes, the Ass Fevah will take you down if you fuck with AB. That's all I'm saying.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Ok, it is 12:25, which leads me to ask two questions.

1) Where is everybody?

2) What should I have for lunch?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

1) I'm here, but Mad Madeleine and I are hanging.

2) Taco Cabana.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

1)I'm back. I went to Smoothie King for lunch and then to Parisian to exchange my sunglasses. The suckers were a month old and they broke. I took them back yesterday and the sunglass counter jag sent me to Sunglass Hut. Sunglass Hut fucked them up and they couldn't do anything, because I bought the glasses at Parisian. Parisian jag was all, "whatever." T was all pissed. So I went back today and the very nice lady exchanged them for me.

2) Taco Cabana, with a Margarita. Or La Madeleline.

Y'all, I am liking scrnwrt. On her links page, she links to Pamie with Pamie's quote about ferrets being rats. Hee!

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I'm here. Teri, tell Chris that my NL dollar-values will be up by Thursday morning, should he be interested. AL ones come out tomorrow.

I meant "slam my hands to the floor". Y'all have no idea what a source of amusement I was -- it was like I was in the zoo. I'm very pissed at myself for that entry, because I think it could have been a lot better had I spent more time on it.

Go Maryland. Survive and advance.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

AB - evidently that's not what Pam told Eric. I can't belive you almost got eaten by Bob Marley.

I was in a 4 hr meeting, but now, I'm BACK.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Joh! You're back.

"Evidently that's not what Pam told Eric."

Okay, see, now you have to elaborate.

Mike - thanks for the heads-up - I'll let Chris know. He claims that he is king of the draft - it's the trading that messes him up. I'll be glad when the draft is over - the upstairs bathroom looks like a newsstand exploded.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Well, you can either trust Eric or me. I'm just telling you the facts.

Yes, Bob Marley wanted me. But I pushed him and called him "Motherfucker", and he ran away, because he knew not to piss me off.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Wait - how did Bob Marley almost eat our AB? Was after Meredith left you to die?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

No, no! That's not what I meant. I believe you. I just wonder if pam elaborated to make her seem less like Miss Cleo. Which she clearly is.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

As the guy in Momo's can tell you - never piss AB off. She will kick your ass.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Meredith didn't leave me to die--I knew where she was. Molly, her sister, was drunk as a skunk and forgot I was with her. Which is crazy, but I can forgive her that, as she called me 3 different cabs and told them to pick up her "short friend Anna Beth in the cowboy hat." She also paid for my cab.

Bob Marley accosted me in the Bank One parking lot, put me in a headlock, and tried to make me kiss him. He smelled like 2 boxes of ass in an ass factory.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Okay, y'all, shoot me down if I'm off here, but this is what I think:

Pam has no right to be upset. I can see how she would be, but really, she has no justification.

For one thing, it seems like she's moved on. Quickly. For another, Eric is her ex-booyfriend. It doesn't matter if they're friends (which really, I think, you should cut off all contact for the first three or four months after a breakup, especially if it was a long- term relationship, because you really, really don't want to know what your ex is up to. Trust me.); it doesn't matter that they were together for however many years. Their relationship is over. Done.

Two, Eric shouldn't care what Pam thinks. She's his ex-girlfriend. Ex. Her opinion of what he does as a SINGLE man shouldn't mean natch to him. She has no right to even know what goes on in his personal life. If he wants to tell her, fine, but she has no justification to be pissed. What did she think, that he'd be single forever, crying into his pillow over her every night?

Three, Pam shouldn't be angry with Joh, because it's not even like they're that good of friends. They wouldn't call each other in an emergency, and they don't share confidences. I mean, when Duncan decided to sneak around on me with that Yankee hussy, I wasn't pissed at her. I was ready to kill him. He was the jag, not her. I mean, she was a jag, but he was the one who should have known better. And in this situation, Eric didn't sneak around on anyone. He's single. Not on a break, but BROKEN UP. If, for some reason, Pam gets pissed, she just needs to suck it up. Eric is her EX.

Anyway. Had to vent. Joh, from what I know of this, you have no reason to feel bad, or to fear for perceptions of you, or anything. Pamie never said, "Hey, world! Stay away from my old boyfriend!" And she certainly didn't say anything to you.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

and then to Parisian to exchange my sunglasses.

You don't even know how much I miss Parisian... sigh... and Rich's.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

EM-OR-Y!

EM-OR-Y!

EM-OR-Y!

Allison, if Emory turns out to be evil, I'll cry.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I'm certainly no paragon of morality, and I probably know a lot less about what happened than anyone else here. But if Pamie and Hannah had been in the opposite roles -- if Pamie had hooked up with a boy Hannah had just broken up with after four years of them being together -- wouldn't we be up in arms on Hannah's behalf?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

"I'll be glad when the draft is over - the upstairs bathroom looks like a newsstand exploded."

As does my living room. And my desk at work.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Thanks Mike.

I never said Pam has no right to be upset. She does. In a way that anyone would be upset when their ex starts seeing/hooking up with/whatever, someone else.

And, for the record, Eric did nothing wrong.

The question, however, is if my actions were in anyway, "disloyal," etc. I like Pam. A lot. And I know this hurt her, and that makes me feel bad. But were we friends? Not really. I owe her my friendships with y'all, and she's obviously the reason Eric and I met, but where does the line get drawn?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Actually, I wouldn't, for the reasons I listed above. If any of the parties were currently involved in a relationship, that's one thing. But if everyone is single, as they are in this situation, it's a whole other issue. We're grown-ups - Pamie won't send anyone to toiler-paper Joh's house, I hope.

AND, if Hannah had a live-in, long-term boyfriend, and she more or less left him in the lurch, in a city that the boyfriend wasn't crazy about moving to, and then she got pissed because he decided to date an acquaintance of hers who she'd hung out with, like, three times, I'd tell Hannah to suck it up and move on. And, I'm confident that she'd tell me the same thing. It's never easy when an ex moves on, but if you're truly an adult, you can take a deep breath and consier the circumstances.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I am an HTML loser. Sorry.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

First, let's close this tag.

Secondly, Mike, you're right. I'm no paragon of morality my own self, but I do think we'd be that way, were the situation reversed.

And H, I don't know where to draw the line. Which is why this whole situation is sort of upsetting for me.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

OK, why can't I fix this?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Eric shouldn't care what Pam thinks

Yeah, but you know... he should. For one thing, he owes her A LOT of money. Hell, he was probably spending her money to come on this trip, when he wasn't borrowing from the rest of us.

I'm not going to bad mouth him, because I love the guy - and all of this has happened already, anyway.

By the way, T - MOC got dissed by Iowa. Now all that remains is VA, Minn, and Emory. Since VA is maybe the toughest of the six, we're just waiting to hear about the other two. We'll see. E-MO-RY!

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Quoting WITHOUT the italics this time ...

"- Pamie won't send anyone to toiler-paper Joh's house"

Meg does live in Ohio, though ... and I'm sure she's desperate to get back into the forum's good graces.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

And the Iowa thing's probably a blessing in disguise for the MOC ... who wants to go there?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Obviously we all have our own OPINIONS. So we can stop talking about it.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

H, you're right. You never said that she has no right to be upset. I did, and I stand by that opinion. I can see how she could be upset, but just because someone's upset doesn't mean they're right, or justified.

I agree that Eric did nothing wrong. A don't think that you've been "disloyal," either. Disloyal would be if Pam, a woman who you are friends with (but like I said before, she'd probably be the tenth person you'd call in an emergency), said, "Hey! Every woman I know! Stay away from my ex!" As she never said that, and never asked you you to do so, at any time, and as Eric is her EX, no, you haven't been disloyal at all. You should be happy that you've found a nice guy.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Oooh. Money owed=bad scene. But unless he's an indentured servant, he can still date who he wants.

I'm done now.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Iowa is an evil land, filled with corn. Hardly any cheese. In Atlanta, though, there's a lot of cheese. Mountains of it, in fact. Big Rock Cheesy Mountain - I think it's in a northern county.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

is greenspun sucking for y'all?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Yeah, it is. Shocking.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Greenspun has been sucking, yes.

Why, why did I go to Saks and spend waaaaaay too much money on Kiehl's? Ugh.

In other news, Chris' mother may have found out about our, um, living arrangement.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Is she OK with it?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

HA! I'm in! Wait. Am I in?!

*shaking fists at the sky* "GreeeenspuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuN!!!!"

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

She hasn't told Chris directly. What happened is last week, Edna was calling because Nicole was coming down for a visit. Nicole had never been to Atlanta before and has only flown a few times, so Edna was concerned about everything going well (sometimes Edna forgets that her children are 28 and 30 years old). Edna asked if Chris would be blowing up the air mattress for Nicole and James, and Chris told her yes. Flash to yesterday, when Nicole and James returned to DC. Edna called Nicole as soon as she knew they were on the ground, and asked them about the weekend.

Edna: "You ate tuna twice? Was it different? Was it good? DId it have raisins?"

Nicole: "It was good tuna, Edna."

E: Now, how was Chris' house? Was it clean? Did he have towels?

N: Yes, Ma, the house was beautiful. You'd love it. You should go visit.

E: Where did you sleep? Did Chris have the air mattress?

N: No, Ma, we slept in a bed.

E: A bed??!? When did Chris get a bed? He didn't tell me he bought a bed!

N: Edna, I don't know when he bought the bed. I think Teri gave ti to him. SHe's buying a new one, or something...

E: Wait - (whispering) does Teri live there?

N: No, ma, I saw her apartment. It's right by Chris' old one.

E: You saw where she lived?

N: YES, mother. We drove by and she picked up a pair of shoes...

I think that upset Edna wasn't that I might be living with her son, but that her son somehow obtained a bed without Edna's knowledge.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Oh, Al - you left your TX card in my rental.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Oh, T... that is so hilarious. JoAnn gets so upset if she finds out I've made a major purchase or added something to my home without her knowledge or advice. I love it that Edna whispered about you living there, like the Pope might walk into the room at any second.

H - I know. It's ok. It was dumb, anyway. I'm sending them an amazon gift cert. I know it's not very personal, but I think they'll appreciate it.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I still have it. I'll send it to you and you can kept it forevah.

pam updated.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Four times.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Yeah. I'm referring specifically to "journalling."

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Daaaaamn Greenspun! Hate.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

It's working okay for me now.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Just when I think it's working, it asses on me again. Asspun.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I saw it, Joh. I wouldn't worry to much.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Look, H, I don't know what you'd be worried about, anyway.

You think she's gonna call you out on Squishy or something? Because there have been girls before you that she hasn't called out. That's not something you need to be worried about.

Plus, if you'll allow me to talk like a guy for a minute: what's done is done.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I'm NOT worried.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Well, good. Because there's no point to it, and seriously, she would never do anything like that. She's embarrassed about the whole situation, anyway.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Damned Asspun. I'm going to Big Daddy's. Al, any requests?

Also, stee wrote a letter to my ass. Woo!

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

What's embarrasing about the situation?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Now, T, come on. You know.

Just the whole her recently-ex-boyfriend hooked up with a girl she knows and had just been hanging out with, having a good time, and you know, her friends know about it and Eric told her all about it and blah blah blah.

AB - Stoli Vanil.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Soooo, more embarrasing than it was for Eric when he moved out there with her and she more or less hooked up with another guy?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

But Eric moved out.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Please. Eric wasn't held at gunpoint. Although it was probably hard for him to move out, you know, with pamie paying for everything and all.

I would have been embarrassed, too. And my feelings are hurt in pamie's general direction. And I still love you all, no matter who did what and where. And that is all I shall say about it.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I'm going home soon and I'm going to sleep for a million years. Or I would, except Sara is guilting me into getting coffee.

I must go get contacts.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

That may have been so short as to be unclear.

Eric is the one who moved out. I don't think he can complain.

And even if he did, that wouldn't lessen Pamie's feelings of embarassment.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I just don't know if embarrassment is the emotion I'd feel. I understand - and know, firsthand - that you feel a twinge of anger when an ex hooks up with someone else, but embarrassment is something that I only felt when he went to hook up with someone while we were still very much together.

The money that he owes her? I don't really have an opinion about it. And if this were really all about money, wouldn't that have been an issue for Pam and Eric, like, a few months ago?

I can see why Pamie's pissed, justified or not. When you're pissed, though, your anger goes out in many, many directions, and times like that are rarely the catalyst for introspection.

Anyway.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Well, like I said before, we all have our own OPINIONS.

I'm leaving.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Bye, baby.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I'm out for awhile. I'm off tomorrow (and may or may not stop in) and am nights all week.

T, tell Chris I hope he and all the other Roto people appreciate these dollar values, because they are quite the pain in the ass to do.

Also tell him to wear whatever lucky outfit he might have to help Maryland win Thursday, because I seriously might jump out the window if we lose to Georgetown.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

"Catylyst for Introspection" is the name of my third album. Except I think I'll spell it "cattle-ist," you know, for Texas.

Yeah, well y'all, this is just a shitstorm. When it comes down to it, it ain't nobody's business but Pam's and Eric's and Hannah's. There's stuff going on behind the scenes that none of us know about, nor should we care to.

More than anything, I'm concerned that Hannah is now involved with someone who doesn't have their ass together enough to be decent in a relationship, long-distance or otherwise. And that has nothing to do with pamie or journalling or anything.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Aw, now see? Everybody left at the same time and I look like L_L. That ain't right.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Y'all, someone at work just found www.speedracer.com, and you can hear the theme song online.

The littlest things make me happy.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

Y'all? It's 4 a.m. I'm leaving now. This sucks. I had to do actual math. Do I want to be figuring out Tim Wakefield's WHIP at 2 a.m.? I do not.

Anyway, odds are small that I will be in tomorrow. If I am in, it'll be late afternoon.

Be well.
