Bridges story again, this time from the Beeb, very rare they put something on the website unless it has some substance!! AM

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson has been given the go-ahead to bring Leeds striker Michael Bridges back to Tyneside. Robson is reported to be lining up a £7m bid for Bridges following vice-chairman Douglas Hall's pledge to loosen the purse strings at St James' Park.

The former Sunderland frontman has been sidelined for most of the season with a serious ankle injury and faces a difficult task to get back into the Leeds first team.

We plan to invest heavily in the future to give the fans a team to be proud of again Newcastle vice-chairman Douglas Hall But Robson is determined to have three quality strikers in his squad and will wait for Bridges to prove his fitness.

Newcastle have been promised £100m over the next two years by Hall which will see the club become a major player in the transfer market again.

And the son of former chairman Sir John Hall is not just setting his sights on luring the best English talent up north.

"For the first time in a long time, there's cash in the bank," said Hall.

"Rivaldo was always my dream and Newcastle should attract players of his quality.

"We can attract any player from anywhere in the world.

"We plan to invest heavily in the future to give them a team to be proud of again.

"This is where it all takes off again."

I think the BBC have just got confused. Haven't they just oppened that nice new Millennium Bridge today, adding to the other 'BRIDGES' over the Tyne.

Or maybe it was just talk about a bridge over troubled water.....

7 mil on a knacked striker isn't sensible

i like the look of the millwall bloke, robert harris, 3 mil gets a goalscorer

but, if we've got cash then Larsson is the man, he'd cut it here.

Mark McGee says Harris or any other first team player at Millwall won't be going anywhere before Transfer deadline day.

Larrson would be a great signing but he would cost an absolute fortune! £15 million plus inthe current market, depends on how this transfer system works out I suppose.

We have two crocked strikers -- why would we want to buy another one whose fitness is in doubt. Good teams are built around the midfield which acts in suppport of attack and defence. That is where our priority should be because the current midfield has failed in both capacities. As for heaps money being available -- does anyone take the rantings of Hall Jnr seriously. The photo seemed to show him toasting with a bottle of beer, I wonder what he had been smoking?

A 23 year old Second division striker striker? No thanks another LuaLua. I would still go for Matt Jansen, He can play as a striker and has an excellent left foot. A left winger is mre important than an out and out striker at the moment.

Definitely Rik.

Robson has criticised the recent flank performances, but hasn't sorted out one of the main problems we had when he joined, the lack of an out and out left winger. Relying on Quinn to provide crosses all afternoon will never bear fruition.

Two 6'4" strikers and nothing to attack.

I think "two crocked strikers" is a bit harsh on Cort.

It's true that he's been out with injury this season, but prior to joining us, he hadn't had anything more than a cold at Wimbledon, which suggests that once he gets going he should be fine. Injury prone players are those who keep picking up little injuries all the time - Alain Goma, Marcelino and the like, but Cort has had two pretty serious ones and has done well to come back and score straight away. He looked fitter on Saturday than Shearer has all season.
