What is VFAPI plug in?

Hello, I am just wondering what the VFAPI plug in for TMPGEnc is? Anybody have any experience with version 12d, is it worth bothering to upgrade? Thanks.

TMPGenc is a stand-alone app that does not get registered with Win98, for example. The good thing about that is adding/changing stuff in Win98 is not going to influence it which means it's more stable by a measure than other s/w encoders (like Xing or Panasonic) that gets installed in the normal Windows manner. The not-so-good thing is it has to have a way of interfacing with (reading) known file types in Windows on its own now, hence the VFAPI plug-ins. These plug-ins are sophisticated "readers" that feed files into TMPGenc to be encoded; you can also have plug-ins not only for files, but for complete project templates from a separate, different application altogether, adding to TMPGenc's versatility. 12d, like 12c, restores MPEG-2 encoding capability for one month. The bug concerns SVCD MPEG-2 files, where using the provided templates for SVCD wrong dimensions for H/V are introduced 720/540 instead of 480/480 in the SDE. Other than this image quality is even better than before; more can be had from www.geocities.com/aussie01au/
