What would you do if you were Bobby?

Assuming we don't go down. Assuming the board are allowing a realistic £15m for players.

I'm also asuming that part of the Goma deal we get a shot at Lee Clark in close season, what do we do? 1st, I'd have Claky &2.5m 2nd, relegated Coventry will sell Thompson for £4m 3rd, Robbie Elliot on a free 4th, Steve Watson £4m 5th, Ginola £1m 6th Simon Davies from Spurs £3.5m 7th relegated City to sell Goater for £7m 8th Etherington from Spurs £2.5m 9th Sir Les (free) 10th Southgate (£3m)

Bring in Vennison, Beardsley & Beresford to the coaching staff get rid of the ex Colchester plank.

get rid of Marcellino £1m, Cordone free, Des (free), Shearer £6m, Speed (£3m)

Aren't we unbalanced enough without buying Davies and Thompson who are right wingers, to compliment Dyer and Solano.

Sell:

Speed Solano, Marcellino, Cordone, Glass.

I'd sell Solano and have Dyer as right winger, Gavilan as deputy.

Midfield would be Acuna and Thompson sounds like a good idea since Coventry are all but relegated. Also watch West Ham, who are creeping into the bottom regions. Left winger is someone we need desparately.

Leslie Ferdinand woulc be a great buy for free, but I can see him signing a new Spurs contract when Hoddle goes there. Southgate would be nice, but £3m is not possible since they turned down £8m for him from Chelsea (I think)

Next season may be very different, remember these foreginers take a while to settle in, look at Henry, Smicer at Liverpool, Bergkamp and all the others. They all took their time to get going, but once they did they were fine.

Of course there are exceptions, like Ginola, who got worse over time after a blistering start.

I think it would take rather more than £15 million for that bunch of players Dave.

What I would do now, is try to get a world class left winger, Attacking central midfielder who is strong and can take free kicks.I'd also put the feelers out for a quality left back and Central defender. And Finally keep the tabs on Matt Jansen (for the summer). . I would also rest Barton, Lee and alternatate Acuna, Bassedas and Speed untill one of them stood out as being a decent player on a regular basis. I'd sack Waddsworth and look at the rest of the coaching staff, bringing in some fresh 'proper' coaches. Hire an indoor Sports hall for the remainder of the season ( untill we can get one of our own biult) and make the players train / work on their tactics for eight hours a day six days a week. Those who don't like it .... they know where the Tyne Bridge is.

Clarky already beat me to my first answer. ;-)

Can't see Southgate coming here unless he's really desperate to get away from Villa and no one else comes in for him. He was in the press yesterday saying he wanted to go to a club that will be playing in Europe cause he's getting up there in age, last chance, etc etc. He complained that Villa can't get away from midtable mediocrity. Can anyone honestly promise him next season won't be exactly the same at NUFC? Though I do think we have more potential than Villa, reality is a bit different.

If I were Bobby I would simply say this " I don't need this crap anymore. I am 67 years old, not hurting for money. I think I will retire at the end of this season and just enjoy my days with my family. Please look for a qualified replacement, starting now."

I personally hope he doesn't, but if I were him.............

If you want the best left footed crosser of a ball in England go and get Steve Guppy back from Leicester. He doesn't seem to get on with Taylor and we would get him for next to nowt. As long as you have a decent defensive left back behind him I can't see a problem.

I would concentrate more on players that would contribute to the team ethic and improve morale. We need to start playing with a smile on our faces. Not condoning the drab solidarity of the Dalglish era, - we need a little more flamboyance - but you get the feeling that most players are thinking 'this is a shit job, why should I bother'.

1. Sack my scouts on the evidence so far. 2. Commission an in depth enquiry into the injury situation. Do we have the right medical staff and fitness training people/facilities? 3. Kneel beside my bed every night and thank God for the most wonderful job I could ever have.

4. Get Terry Mac back in as 'social secretary' and at least let Peter Beardsley near the first team to distribute Mars Bars or something....
