VCD Player Malfunction

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi!

I've just purchased a VCD player (Philips brand) about six months ago. Last week, it started to indicate "no disc" as soon as i loaded a vcd or audio cd. There were instances that it was able to read the disc but lately it has become more persistent. There were times when i played pirated vcd's in this player. Has my player gone kaput? There was one VCD which was kind of "transparent" which i played; after which, my player started its "no disc" problem. What's your advise? I hope it's not: "buy a new one."

Thanks.

Mike

My friend also owns a philips vcd player and had the same problem. After we disconnected the power, removed the battery the player lost all it's settings and returned to factory default. Maybe this will help(if you havn't tried it already).

You need to understand how the Laser reads the pits. You can slam the open/close and get the disc to read sometimes. "Which means" you got lucky on the laser picking up the info. I assume the Audio Cd is a burned copy that you are having the same problems on. Try differnet kinds of media (CDr) or just go straight to CDrw.
