What have you planted so far this year????

What have you planted in your gardens so far this spring? or how are you getting ready?

We're in north Alabama and I planted Romaine lettuce and some onions last week and planted more onions, two kinds of cabbages, and nine brocoli plants today! I have a large area covered with plastic where I have been dumping a lot of the rabbits' "fertilizer" all winter so I'm letting it "cook" under the plastic now. That's where we'll plant the tomatoes in about 6 weeks.

All the other composting in the garden appears to have been going well as the soil is rich and black looking and full of nice fat earthworms!!!

Trying to garden as organically as possible this year!!!

Later we'll plant the tomatoes, lots of them, cucumbers, egg plants, crooked neck yellow squash, cantalops and more!

Today I planted onions, collards, mustard, and turnips. I still have a patch of collards that I've been eating from all winter except for a couple of weeks after the temperature got close to zero. I probably won't plant anything else until the first week in May because it almost always frosts here in western N.C. around that time or a little later.

We have not planted anything yet, too cold yet in northern West Virginia.

I've also got one tire planted in potatoes, I want to finsh this project next week.I read back over that and whew we been busy. I'm going to try some Malabar spinach this year for summer salads, hope we like it.. I love this time of year, it's so refreshing to plan and plant a garden , sit eggs, watch the goat kids playing. Hi Suzy,

Here in Eastern KS I have make some new raised beds, and have planted only the very early spring vessies from seed, that veing peas and spinach. I will be putting out broccoli and some cabbage this morning from my early seed starting.

Nothing in the market garden yet, too early for the onion sets and all of those summer veggies, even with protection.

Everyone have a nice day. :-)

Dianthus (sweet william), banana peppers, Black Beauty eggplant, except they aren't really planted - they're in flats on top of my refrigerator. Still too cold here in Tennessee.

Cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuces, chard, spinach and onions are already in. Today I sowed 4 different pea types. Time to start my tomatoes and peppers. Already have some flowers under lights. I'm pretty new to starting my own transplants, so I'm still learning timing.

Just peas and radishes so far all planted by our 5 year old.

Our peach tree flowered for the first time!!! It's still very small so I don't know if we can expect any fruit this year. All the perenials are coming up and the bleeding hearts are actually starting to flower already. Carolina Jesamine has buds on it and the Forsythia has been in full bloom for a week.

I love this time of year!

this just makes me want to get out and dig in the dirt more!!!!

-- Suzy in Bama (slgt@yahoo.com), March 19, 2001.

Still have big piles of snow, and the ground is frozen, so . . . NOTHING!

Funny, you should ask... I was just starting to think of getting out there and turning some dirt over. But, I had 4" of snow on Saturday, sunny and 60's on Sunday... never can tell with NM weather and I'm at 7,000 feet. But, only garden I'm planting is for my chickens, just some green things. Spinach and red leaf lettuce do great up here. Moving this spring/summer, I hope, so I can't do much this time. I'll just live vicariously through all the garden threads this year. Happy gardening, happy spring tomorrow! Weeeehaw! dh in nm

12 Big roots clumps of rhubarb, 4 gooseberry bushes, peas, and fava beans. Also spearmint and watercress seed.

-- seraphima (djones@kodiak.alaska.edu), March 19, 2001.

The sun shined today and mostly melted the snow except in the shaped areas. I started snapdragons (tall and short), moss roses, pansies, and a couple of early tomatoes inside today to go under the grow lites.

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), March 19, 2001.

Lettuce and onions going in as soon as the planters are finished - I'm jealous of all those who started already!! AND, boy was I amazed that I can actually start this early! Thought Idaho would be colder than IL this time of year....

-- Sue Diederich (willow666@rocketmail.com), March 20, 2001.

The other day we planted and put out Yellow onions, radishes, peas (Big boy and sugar snap) lettuce (buttercrunch and Romain) and collards. Now we're having several days of cold rain and I'm worrying about my peas. I will probally lose them. This seems to happen to me every year. No big deal since I'll just plant more.

-- Mark M in NC (MagicMark@aol.com), March 20, 2001.

didn't actually plant this this year but hope the garlic I planted last fall comes through its the first time I've triedto grow it. We tap trees here so the first spring crop will be syrup!! We still have 3 feet of snow in the woods.

-- michelle (tsjheath@ainop.com), March 20, 2001.

Sugar snap peas, spinach, two lambs, and now a duck....

-- sheepish (WA) (rborgo@gte.net), March 20, 2001.

You are a nasty person to ask such a question! I have 2 feet of snow covering my garden and more due tonight! I trust my garlic is still under there somewhere, and I did actually pull out my flats to start tomatoes and peppers in later this week. On the positive side, I think it's about time to have lobster for supper again. GL from Maine.

-- Brad (homefixer@SacoRiver.net), March 21, 2001.

I have onions, 3 types of lettuce, 2 types of cabbage, and cauliflower in so far and growing. Was going to plant spinach and turnips earlier this week, but between the rain and what not haven't been able to do that.

-- Eric in TN (eric_m_stone@yahoo.com), March 21, 2001.

I had planned on having potatoes, peas, radishes, onions, greens, etc. planted. However, between the weather and the tiller, zilch, except in the cold frame. Last night our tiller died. I know it's not the end of the world, but my tiller died last night.....

I wish it would dry up enough to plant something.
