Bring Back Keegan

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I'm not sugesting that YBR is replaced, I would like to see some of the coaches replaced though and the training sessions extended. I think Keegan should be offered a coaching roal at the club. (not sure if he woul accept it though). But I believe that he would be able to doa number of things for the club.

1 . restore the players confindence in themselves.

2. Teach them how to play exciting , entertaining positive football<3> Restore the fans faith in the club , give us back the belief that we will soon be challenging at the top

4. If money is to be spent, he would be the best man to spend it

He is now older, and wiser, he new where he went wrong, I would ask him to become assistant manager and do away with Waddsworth, and half of the other coaches/ physios/ team doctors etc. Let him bring in some fresh men to get this rabble into shape.

Keegan will re-appear in a management capacity, but at Southampton when Hoddle goes to Spurs.

No way, most tactifully inept coach and manager in the business, he admits it himself. He could not hack it first time around , everyone on here knows my feelings about him, he let us down for God`s sake, not worth going into it anymore.

Leave the tactics to Robson, give Keegan the job of motivating the players, deciding who are the best players to bring in / get rid of and get him to oversea the training of the team. I reckon between them Keegan and Robson would make a good team.

Keegan wouldn't work for robson. Wasn't it YBR who kicked Keegan out of the England team?

Has Keegan ever forgiven Bobby for that? If he is able to get beyond it, maybe.

Interesting suggestion of Venables. He and Bobby do have a lot of respect for each other.

Belief that we should be challenging at the top was suspended about two months' into TSM's reign. It'll take about a decade to come back to the heights again...if ever.

How we managed to mount a challenge at the top in the first place, only those players and KK will know. Built upon a flimsy defence, we attacked our way to runners-up based on a swift passing game. Belief was the key.

Based upon the last couple of seasons, we have drifted in midtable, entertaining the odd thought of relegation. The passing game has gone, replaced by the hard working, boring play of TSM and the absolute shambles of TDO.

What's left of the passing game? Barton (who had no part in the constructive stuff, and probably never will - shocking), Lee (now ageing) and Shearer (part time).

What's left of TSM's team? Too much, in the form of Speed (when he wants to), Griffin (ordinary), Dabizas (my God, our most experienced defender and hardly somebody you'd anchor a defense around), Solano (always destined to be a bit part player - not somebody to build a team around).

TDO? Dyer - an enigma. Equally frustrating and compelling, more of the former this year. Everything else gone or playing dead.

Robson? A couple of average South Americans and nowt much else.

The rest have come through the ranks. And what illustrious ranks! Do you really see Caldwell/ Hughes being held in the same regard as a Rio Ferdinand or Ashley Cole (even after so few games)? I don't - where's the class you learn from? Dabizas? Give me a break. Its good to play alongside a strong defender who'll teach you the ropes, not against Premier League strikers who haven't failed to score a goal in more than 20 games. Sure, you normally don't fall for the same thing again, but its better to be told what to look out for before it happens. No new, experienced, talented defenders in the summer - more of the same next year.

Can we fill a 52,000 seater in the First Division? Can we pay the interest on the debt? Frightening.

Not to pick on the defence, we could improve everywhere, but we need to do it bliddy quickly and three or four average players in the summer ain't gonna do it.

Sweet dreams.

Thanks for those re-assuring thoughts Bok ;-)

I wouldn't mind seeing who Bobby would buy, given the money. Yesterday there was only Acuna and Solano from outside of the UK / Ireland, so maybe Wadsworth is having less of an effect on Bobby's signings now?

Cort, you'd have to say, given time in the team could turn out to be a good buy, and in a good midfield Acuna isn't exactly bad.

Everyone's opinions are different after each match. I remember after the Leeds Match (away) everyone was singing the players' praises but now they're objects of hate (maybe an exaggeration) which is slightly fickle.

At least we have something to play for this season, albeit our Premiership status.

Forget Keegan - he couldn't do it again, and his ego won't risk him trying.

Can we sort it? Of course we can - provided we get the right leadership.

The playing squad needs totally but carefully rebuilding; we need to get proper training facilities, and the Youth Academy up and running NOW, we need to sort out the present medical maliase, improve the quality and stature of the coaching staff, and very importantly sort out the communications with the supporters to ensure they understand exactly what we are trying to do, and when all the key elements will be in place.

This will all take at least two seasons: if we get relegated it will take five.

For crying out loud - LET'S GET BLOODY STARTED!!!!!!!

The most worrying aspect is if we did get relegated that team could not compete in the 1st division.

Keegans days were fun but we have to move on, with Dyer out and Solano off his game it is difficult to see were the guile will come from. We need a decent attacking midfielder in the side and I don't think we should wait until the summer.

At the risk of sounding dramatic, BY FAR the most important signing we can make in the next 1-3 seasons will be our new manager.

It goes without saying - there again, maybe not with our club - that he must be an experienced manager. Experienced that is in building a successful club from shaky foundations, not in winning European silverware.

It will be worth breaking the bank to get that man in, either alongside or following after YBR. Who should that man be ? For my mind you can't go past either Ferguson or O'Neill. Comments ?

Loony, yep your right re most important, Ferguson and ONeil, The two v`s also, Venners and Ven , outsider McLeish.

it'll be Shearer. And i think it could be a BIG mistake.

:-((
