-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Chewsee 2 SMBs 1 Good - Johnson!!

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Playing at home, two nil down to a relegating team, what the f*xking happening....

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

City and Boro winning - relegation battle on the horizon here me thinks

Defeats at home to the above means we cannot complain

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

We are looking like a team devoid of ideas. We expect to let goals in and don't expect to score. :-(

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

you mean the same goodjohnson we could have had in the summer. Cannot be.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Fecking useless. Get the goal before half time.

At least the mackems are losing and Boksic seems to have done enough for this afternoon! We can come back!

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Anybody with diaup getting NUFC webcast OK? This bliddy Smoggie site is deein' me heen in. Aah just hate that bliddy Bernie Slavva.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

thats exactly what we are Screecher.

Cannot defend - and thats pointing a finger at the entire side not just the defenders.

Crap

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

recent performances in mind, Ive more of a chance in winning the lottery than us getting three in the second half.

Corrrection. That should be this seasons performances.

Defeats at home to Boro and the mackems in the same year. Shite.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Stamp off!!!!

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

It is because we are lack of quality. Just cash in some of the big names. There is no more excuse for the board, the transfer system has been made clear. It must be time to buy before the deadline. Shit.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Dorty little b@st@rd. Dissent then bad tackle. Could this be the turning point??

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Well, what do we do now, defend against ten or go out to destroy them???...Over to you Bobby.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

stamp off

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Yes! CAn we get another Boro player sent off? Or 2 more? Might give us a fighting chance. ;-)

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Get off Butch Dingle!!!!!! Brilliant.

Boksic is a truly world class player against our young lads lets get, behind the team!

Game of two halves and all that.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Have we got a midfield???

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

HT - 0-2.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

"We expect to let goals in and don't expect to score"

Exactly. What does Bobby and the rest of the coaching staff do to get that out of the player's heads? I'm convinced it's a subconscious thing with them. It's the footy version of writer's block.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

trouble is our midfielders have the creativity of door knobs. Static and no vision. We'll end up hoofing it.

Radio 5 says we have dominated the half and the offside was suspect

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Fill in Bassedas and get one defender off. Attack is just the way to come back. At least we have fight....

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Just dialled in again - 41,333bps. Maybe the Metro site will work for 2nd half.

YBR has to work wonders. Can he? I haven't picked up any decent performances for us - is that just Smoggie bias or are we just sh!te?

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Looking on the bright side....at least this one wasn't televised all over the world! ;-))

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Let me know if you get in, Screach. I'm on 50k but no luck

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

.........now!

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

It sounded like we were creating a few chances early on. And even had the ref do everything but put the ball into the net for us on the 2 free kicks. We just can't seem to finish. After our 'offside' goal I had a horrible feeling it was going to be another one of those days. Sure enough Boro run down the other end and put it in. If the lads get stuck in and show some fight and spirit there's no reason we can't get something out of this game.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

all reports indicate we were unfortunate to go two nil down.

Several missed chances and a disallowed goal.

Cannot see us coming back. Sorry too be a pessimist

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Sounded to me from the Official site that we did have most of the ball first half, unfortunately we couldn't do anything with it. Acuna's goal sounded good, though the linesman flagged him offside (ball came through off a defender) Several other suspect offsides. No excuses. they scored two, we scored none. So, now we have an extra man, throw all sheets to the wind and get after them. Or, will YBR play the cautious game and hope for a magic substitution 10 minutes from the end?

I agree, put Bassedas or even Cordone on now, at the half, pull a defender and go out to win this one.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

No - it keeps breaking up on Metro. I feel really strongly about this. WTF am I forced to listen to my team on the bliddy opposition's webcast? It is yet another f***in' cock up from the Orificial Shite.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

agree fully

Time for Bassedas to start paying back some of that transfer fee

He has done bugger all since he joined and the pre season knock cannot be an excuse now.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

No Stephen Glass on the bench. Why does Robson send our an unbalanced midfield then not even nam a sub who could sort it out. I'd bring on Cordone in place of Ameobi or Cort and go for 4-3-3. At least then we wouldn't need wingers.

Also why bring Barton in instead of Griffin. The four that played against Everton didn't concede in open play so why not play them. We get the chance to field a settled back four and we think, "No that's not the Newcastle way, lets change it".

I doubt Barton was at fault but that's not the point.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

perhaps its deliberate Screacher in that they are sick of people listening to us getting beat

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Why was Glass not sold last summer?

Bobby has never really used him

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

And just for fun, get someone into Inces face and watch him react his usual way.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

No Lua Lua - so 7 million of Bobbys signings aint figuring. Add Gavilan to that and for 9 mill we could have had a canny player

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Mr. Robson said after the defeat by Chelsea, the next six games are the ones to get the maximum which may helped us get pass to Europe. Now four games have been played, let's do a review: Charlton 0-2 Man City 0 - 1 Everton 1 - 1 Middlesbrough 0-2HT What can we be worse than this?

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

not much

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

and the second half played against a 10 man side who have not won away for 10 games.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Is it time to stick a quid on us to god down this season? This is uter crap. Lee/Speed/Barton/Shearer all finished, no-one to rely on in their place (keepers excepted, but even there Harper is better than Given).

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

mackems equalise.

It gets worse

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

HOWAY LADS!!! Settle down and get into them.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Get Lee or Speed off no energy from the old timers.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

one paced. Slow.

At least George Grahams Spurs didnt concede goals.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

I have a feeling if we get one back, we'll get four. Unfortunately I also have a feeling we won't get the one.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Bradford equalise. They are down so looking over our shoulders means that I dont want city to win.

Bradford.Coventry.Man City

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

We'll be lucky to get four more this season

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Just imagine ...the next is away to Bradford..will we do the same???

Lee cannot be in the first team anymore. He is honestly too slow, eep him on the bench and use him as a big sub is a better way to preserve his career.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

A dim light at the end of the tunnel? Or more of the usual? CMON LADS! ATTACK!!!!

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Southampton one up. Europe backons.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

No urgency whatsoever. Time for some changes to be made for the next game, these lads are too complacent. Trouble is can we afford.......aaahhhhhhhhhhhfuck it

Carl Cort is a Geordie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Magical right footed volley, what a great team!

Totally agree DB, no place here for them.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

hey, here's a new concept for us. Play crap early inthe game and come on gangbusters at the end. Oppositie to our usual play.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

McCann scored the third.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

COME ON LADS....COME ON!

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

The Toon Army have a big part to play for the last 20 mins.

The End

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Bollocks. I'm off to jump off a bridge.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

We never learn from our mistakes do we? Game after game we have been out fought.

Is Robson too technical with his analysis? Does he look for reasons like passing etc instead of fecking fighting them?

Can't understand why Rob Lee is still on the pitch.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

At the risk of being banned, Well Done Smogs, 10 men, tough second half. Lucky you weren't playing a team with half a clue.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Just call us Santa Claus. If your team has an unwanted record, just book a match against us, we'll make sure you end it. :-(

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Just a couple of post-match, eye-witness thoughts:

1) we weren't really outfought - we aren't good enough.
2) we had buckets of possession, but the final pass was invariably misplaced, the standard of crossing was pathetic, and Solano contrived to go MIA for most of the game - other than missing the penalty, of course. However, I don't just want to target Solano for criticism - Speed had an absolute 'mare, and Quinn wasn't far behind.
3) despite 'losing' Boksic on the 1st goal, I thought Caldwell & Hughes were perhaps our best players on the day.
4) Cort improved as the game progressed and his goal was a belter, struck from 14 yds with venom and from a knee height.
5) principally for the benefit of De Builder, Rob Lee was on the field because he is STILL our best midfielder - and that fact encapsulates perhaps our biggest problem.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Complete agreement Clarky. You forgot to mention that we were shite. Now that has been corrected, I'm off to watch Star Wars.

-- Anonymous, March 17, 2001

Not what i wanted to read on my first time logging on from Down under . Im just bliddy pleased im at the other side of the world where noone gives a shit . Im embarassed . Glad i dint witness this sh1te . Ahh well , itsa long way from Tiperrary , its a long way from Toon . Hope yers all well , n glad to see youre trying to keep it together , times like these the lads need supporting . Howay lads !

-- Anonymous, March 18, 2001

Well if Rob Lee is ou best midfielder then the problem is probably worse than I thought. Most of the reports I read on Sunday said Lee was a yard off the pace, granted his mind may make up half a yard but ths is the Premiership and you need energy and stamina for the full 90 minutes to excel. It's not Lee's fault he's too old.

I spoke to a West Ham supporting mate of mine on Saturday night and he said Michael Carrick was oustanding on Saturday.

Also Robson had the faith to buy Bassedas for so much so where is his faith now? The lad will only begin to prosper when he can get a decent run in the side so what good is he on the bench?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

DareI be so bold?

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

DB,

F**k what the papers say - I'm telling you, Rob Lee WAS our best midfield player. Speed and Solano were abysmal: Acuna ran around like a f@rt in a bottle, and achieved nothing at all.
In addition, there is nothing wrong with RL's stamina or fitness - he lasted the 90 minutes, and worked his bloody socks off.
The reality is he's 34 going on 35, he's lost a yard of pace (and was never that fast). He was supposed to be playing in front of the young back 4 to protect them, but he still managed to get forward to support the front men - I'll admit without much end product.

He is still our best midfield player - without doubt in my mind - and YES that does suggest the full magnitude of the problem - BUT ITS FACT!

I don't want to knock Bassedas as he may yet settle in and prove his worth, but he has had chances to show what he's capable of. However, whenever he's played he's been bloody anonymous - he has no pace, and is too easily brushed off the ball. The fact that he's Bobby's 2nd biggest signing, and yet Bobby won't play him, says it all for me - and I still really hope the lad makes it as he seems a good character.

We're in a bloody mess and hounding Rob Lee out of the side won't help us one little bit. If he's still our best m/f player next season then we'll be in even bigger dood - assuming of course, we're still in the PL!

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

I don't wish to sound disrespectful Clarky but your opinion of Lee's performance is exactly that - an opinion.

Looking at the big picture we shouldn't be playing Lee, Acuna and Speed in the same side anyway. Playing Acuna as an attacking midfielder is a joke. He's good in the air but creatively he is not the man. Playing Lee as the old man protecting the back four meant that Acuna had to play behind the front two. Not ideal and short term.

It says it all really about the complete lack of shape and misguided formation which our midfield are asked to perform week in week out and it has't been right all season.

More shite in the papers this weekend about Wadsworth being on eof the most respected innovative coaches in the land. When they sit down and look at the midfield on the team sheet do they really think that they are going to do a job. Once again it faces in the team first then pick a formation.

-- Anonymous, March 19, 2001

DB - we're actually in danger of violent agreement on most of these points.

None of this is "ideal", in fact it's mostly a friggin mess. However, with the exception of YKD and the mystery that is Stephen Glass, our best m/f players were playing on Saturday and they were collectively and individually useless.
In an ideal world RL would not be playing, but the reality is that IMO there simply isn't anyone better right now. This HAS to change this close season.
