I just found some brief notes,

*The story works on two senses, sight and sound. *Opening paragraph sets up, creates a man who is "the other one" *He is alert, curious *Confidentley catagorises people *goes down the social scale as he goes on catorgarising *as night falls he goes from general observations to the individual, (the old man) *" to view is to know, to know is to view." * the old man is a criminal because he is un-knowable * the conclusion is that the old man can not be read.
