JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A Delta Air Lines plane headed to Cincinnati turned back Thursday after a smoky odor filled the cockpit, airline officials said.

The plane returned to Jacksonville International Airport after the smoky scent filtered through the plane, causing an alarm to go off. The MD-88 jet plane carrying 130 passengers made a U-turn about 40 miles outside Jacksonville, said Delta spokeswoman Cindi Kurczewski.

Some passengers said they saw smoke coming from the cockpit. No injuries were reported.

Airline mechanics will investigate what caused the odor.

Doris, I want to thank you for the aviation-related postings. I follow that area probably as closely as you do, but your sources differ from mine, so I get to see stories I wouldn't see otherwise. I just want you to know you are appreciated. :)
