Nigel, I'm curious. Why don't you write in and tell us what YOU like about this shot?

What is interesting to me is how real the clown-head looks - at first glance - when next to the child's or as it appears between the spectators. There is a bit of tension due to whatever it is the child is concentrating on being hidden from view. The child can also appear hidden among the stuffed animals above her. This is one time that I might suggest a wider area of view to show more details surrounding the child and clown, and thus maybe increase the "hidden child factor." My summary: The photograph isn't a really strong one, but it does have some interesting elements.

who says I do! ;) just kidding!

I take very few people pics (other than my son and family) but I'm getting an interest through this forum.

What I liked about this pic was the relationship between the obvious sign and the girl manning the booth, a child herself. I like how everyone, including all the stuffed toys are looking at the recipient of the prize... Why I posted it was to see if anyone thought the fact that you can hardly see the recipient (blonde hair) or what she was receiving mattered. Is it that bad that you wondered why I posted it? I didn't want to ask that question outright, since that could influence your opinion.

regards, Nige

glad I posted that after Tony.. hehe! thanks Tony for your thoughts. I have cropped the picture a little, but really only got rid of more dead foreground (peoples legs) and some dark area off to the right.

Well for me, I can't really tell what's going on here- so the story matters less. It would be more interesting if those foreground people would get lost, even though they do frame the clown. The sign, the animals, the clown, the kid, all potentially interesting graphical elements that just dont seem to be working together like they could. Maybe I'm too picky, or maybe clowns just give me the creeps.. It's a nice try- I probably would have shot it too.

This photograph deals with the relentless commercialisation that impacts childrens' lives, and the parents who broodingly hope that a child can be satisfied with gifts instead of love.

Oh.

Uh.

If you have an alternative interpretation, then by all means offer it. If you have nothing to say, then please do so.
