I enjoyed first part

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Of the BBC 2 doc on the `young men` who reshaped football and look forward to next week when it comes into the nineties. I felt that a lot of information hitherto unknown to me came out , in particular the wheeling and dealing with the tv companies. The two who seemed to be at the fore were Irving Scho;ar and Greg Dyke , with Gordon McKeag playing a bit part, Sir John next week methinks!.On reflection football was in a serious position at the time , interesting when they were attempting to form a super league and Newcastle were in the 2nd 5 along with Sheff Wed , how can one legislate for the demise of Sheff

Hopefully others may have seen the programme and may post on the financial side (Clarky), my main observation is after watching the piece is how can anyone campaign for standing areas after the scenes on show last night, Justice Taylor we have a lot to be thank- ful for. The grounds were an absolute disgrace to humanity,

Finally those of you who read The Straw Winds Thread and my sarcastic piece about Keegan returning (still pals Jonno?) will be no doubt aware that the sight of the blazered permed one puckering up to Iron Knickers Thatcher has as Mr Bojangles would say, given me something extra in my locker for future posts!!!

David Dein's quote: "People used to queue 20/30 deep and could not get near the toilet" brought memories of the Gallowgate (flooding) back.

I have to agree re standing areas, however much we'd love to bring back the old atmosphere etc.

Andy Gray tells next week's prog: "It probably took Hillsborough for people to realise - hold on a minute, what the hell's going on with this game? This is ridiculous. We're talking about a sport here and people are losing their lives? Football came very close to imploding."

"......people used to queue 20/30 deep and could not get near the toilet"

To be quite honest, that's still the situation in the East Stand - the toilet facilities are still totally inadequate.
