I keep a five-gallon bucket of worms and bedding for fishing worms. I tossed in vegetable trimmings which included two celery heels and then inverted the bedding into another bucket. When I inverted it again several days later I found the two celery heels were sprouting out of the middle and one even has a hair root. This makes me wonder it is wouldn't be possible to get a second celery crop by cutting it off near the bottom, rather than pulling the plant. The root system would still be there.

Hi Ken, Yes this works with many plants, if you can keep it from bolting to seed. Worm bins seem like magic, the way viable plant matterial will grow 'in there' and no where else, I have used a worm bed for a plant nursery by making a plastic tent over the bed to keep it moist and well lighted.

Ken I have been doing about the same thing with my onions. After I cut the top and bottom off to use the onion, I plant the bottom in the garden and get more onions. Rick
