i would say stuff it and buy british from now on. it seems to me very few foreign defenders ever cut it here

but when they do they are excellent

They all will put their heart into the game and I can forgive the odd mistake knowing they are giving it 100%. I can see Barton coming back to act as the Father of the Defence.

Unfortunately these young un's might look at that in a similar way to your Dad's dancing at weddings!

I hear frank lebeouf may be available. ;-)

Olivier Bernard has joined Darlington on a months loan and could make his debut for them tonight.

Robson must be pretty bust at the minute sorting out these deals, any more before deadline day!!?

Geez, I go off to do some work for a few hours, and Goma gets sold. Real ambitious guy...leave NUFC for...Fulham. Course they'll get promoted next season and he'll be responsible for them keeping a clean sheet when we play them. :-PPPPP

I'm all for a Caldwell-the-mouth/Hughes central partnership for the rest of this season. Can't see the 2 of them doing any worse than Hughes/PickYerPartner have all season. And far better for our future to give them the chance to develop some kind of understanding.

sometimes it pays to say bugger it and change things a bit. Man U are easily the best team in the land with only a couple of foreigners. i'm not sure, individually they have the best players but they sure know how to gel as a team.

lets have a revolution - younger players in, cash grabbers out

42 points then why not Swift, and give Glass a 4 match run(from the off that is, not 80 mins)

-- Anonymous, March 13, 2001

Swift which couple of foriegners were you thinking of at Man U Barthez or Stam or Silvestre or Solksjaer or Fortune or in the none too distant past Berg, Cantona, Schmeicel, Cruyf, Podborski, Van der Geouw, Bosnich, Tarabi, Blomquist, Kanchelskis and I'm sure I'll have missed some.

The thing they do differently is get rid of them when their time is up.

In reponse to the thread title - we'll hardly miss him.

However, enter stage left - Pablo Paz and possibly the PSV blerk? Something about frying pans and fire springs readily to mind.

Got to agree with Buff - 42 points first, then I'd kinda like to see both Caldwell's playing at CB, bringing brotherly telepathy into play.

What about Dabz. I feel he still has a big part to play when he finally returns to action. Hughes Dabz ?? as the two central defenders? I must admit I really havent seen that much of Caldwell so far. I have only gone off what you all have said about him.

-- Anonymous, March 13, 2001

I'm not too sue about Dabizas. He makes too many mistakes. We eed a rock that dosen't take risks.

-- Anonymous, March 13, 2001

Love Dabs' attitude, effort and goal-scoring ability, but the man scares me to death every minute he's on the pitch. Absolutely terrified of when he'll panic next and cost us points. Other than that, he's a good defender. ;-)

Just watching a tape of today's AC Milan v Deportivo match. Helder on as a sub. If only we could have kept him. :-(

If we don't sign anyone we'll be faced with playing inexperienced centre backs for the rest of the season, which may not be a bad thing.

Also, if we can't play Steve Caldwell for whatever reason there is really no difference in playing Beharall and Gary Caldwell because they are just as inexperienced in the big swing of things. It gives us the opportunity of seeing how good they are and hopefully Hughes will develop as a defensive leader in that time, as he will be peerless and therefore a bit feerless!!

-- Anonymous, March 14, 2001

How many games has Helder played for Deportivo this season? He always seemed willing to secure a long term contract at the club and was an imposing defender. It may be possible that this is one of the signings that Robson will look to make in the summer?

Well Goma has officially signed for Fulham and all the press stories really do suggest that we have tabled a £1.5 million bid for O'Brien of Bradford.

The only stumbling block being the "sell on clause" which Richmond the Bradford chairman is insisting on.

One question, how tall is O'Brien?

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2001

The Opta folk have him as 5'10". We'll have the smallest pair of Centre backs in the country if him and Aaron Hughes are paired together!

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2001

Oi De Builder!!

Richmond the Bradford Chairman says he hasn't received a bid from Newcastle for Andy O'Brien. That pours piss on your theory then doesn't it?!

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2001

He also doesn't think that Bradford need to spend money to stay in the division :-)

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2001

I think Bradford are resigned to the drop and are effectively asset stripping! Collymore, Petrescu and even Hopkin has now returned to Crystal Palace.

I'm amazed Carbone is still there and playing as well!

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2001

And Dean Windass and Peter Beagrie (Wigan)

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2001

Buff, I gather that the only reason Hughes plays at left back for NI is because there's no one else to fill the same berth. I'm told he's fairly crap in that capacity actually.

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2001

DB

Your amazement about Signor Carbone is not misplaced. There's an article in today's la Stampa which says that he's looking for out - pronto.

-- Anonymous, March 15, 2001

Bradford are assett stripping, Wigan are assett accumalating, mmm

Dougal ah ken pet, but Roberto Carlos, would look ordinary in NI team
