Are the new Black Paint lenses heavier than regular black?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

A very stupid question, I know, but since a friend of mine is interested in the 35mm Black Paint lens for his new LHSA M6, I'm curious. I'm also trying to talk him out of the lens. He already has a regular black 35mm ASPH that would look fine on this camera, and he isn't made of money. I would assume that the Black Paint lens is brass underneath, making it heavier than the alumn. black. Am I right? This guy is a shooter, but he also has serious "collector" issues as well. =^) Thanks!

You are correct. The black-paint lenses are brass underneath, and thus weigh about the same as the same version in chrome.
