Did Edgar Allan's Poe influence his writing? I am doing a report on him and my main topic is drinking and my analysis is on "The Raven" and I am wondering whether the two are connected.

I think his life experiences had more of an affect on his writing than his drinking. I do believe drinking and his opium usage DID have an affect, just not a big one.

The Raven is a sad, mournful depressing poem. Often people who drink are characterized as just that, I do believe Poe's substance abuse had some affect on his views of the world, however, I believe his experiences had a greater affect on how he felt toward the world and society than simply his drinking habits.
