Can I register a Coon with un-know ancestry?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

I own an excelent looking and very healthy huge 1 year-2 month old brown tabby in Caracas Venezuela. Although the cat was purchased from a lady who showed us "good cats," we not only had done a fair amount of reaserch on the breed (books and visited DOZENS of US Coon breeders before), being Venzuela a country with no cat-fanciers assosiation and the cats's parents incredibly beautiful, we decided to get him.

He is an exceptionally beautiful and lovvable 20 pound cat and still growing, and to my eye, has as good physical caracteristics as any of the registred cats and breeder's studs I have seen thorughout New York and New Jersey where I travel plenty.

I am moving back to the U.S. and I am very very interested in any possibility of having my Coons' breed "oficialized." Can he enter any shows? Can we eventually breed?

I have read people responding to breeding questions saying that it is a difficult task and many times questioning the motives of the wanna-be-breeder. I completely understand this position, but given my adoration and (healthy-father-like pride) for my cat, would love to be able to enter him into any shows...Is there any acceptable procedure?

I caanot but help feel my cat is a great specimen...if this is physically obvious, why would competition not be possible?

Any caring orientation in these regards would be very muc
