Crouching VCD: Which one is legit?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I've noticed on eBay there are many different packages/types for VCDs that are being called legitimate Columbia Studio releases. Can someone let me know how to tell which one(s) is(are) real?

Here are examples of the characteristics these VCDs have (with eBay item # in {brackets}:

1) Plain packaging {1415016749}

2) Deluxe packaging (cloth front cover) {1415679694}

3) Extra features (music video and "making of" short) {1413198179}

4) Widescreen version {1416042756}

I own one of the second variations (with the cloth cover). The discs have a rich golden backing (like some DVDs) and the first disc has three tracks (ERA distribution company banner, ad for travel agency?, first half of the movie).

Any insight would be helpful,

I can tell you #3 is a DVD rip. Those features are not offered on a VCD. My guess is on #4 this is a film dup. Most True VCDs don't come in Widescreen. They are also edited for language and nudity if it was a true VCD.

About that last comment. I have a real VCD and it has quite a bit of nudity and gore. Of course, they're music videos, but still.

I don't think that this movie has been released officially yet at all in Malaysian - So I would say that all these movies are rips!

Generally I would not buy this sort of material from anyone other than a legitimate store lsited on www.d8a.co.uk/vcd - it's your only guarantee of quality.

NB:ALL LEGAL MALAYSIAN VCDS HAVE NUDITY REMOVED - UNLESS YOUR IDEA OF NUDITY IS AN EXPOSED ELBOW!!!!!

What does film dup means? I got Crouching Tiger, Hidden dragon in Mandarin with English subtitles and it's widescreen. The cover has DVD VIdeo Cd sign. Is this legit? My dad got this in Malaysia.
