Expression

Oooh, Copyright 2001 Jeff Spirer

Sometimes things happen that you really want to shoot but the composition doesn't quite fall into place. I doubt I will get an expression like this on the street for quite a while, so I had to take it, but I sure do hate that umbrella. The weird thing is that it had stopped raining about five minutes before but everyone still had their umbrellas out (or hoods up).

no comments yet? you guys are too quiet, we need to do something about that.

what an expression! just love those hands and especially those ips pursed that way. ssshhh.... listen... she's saying, " oooooo honey you can take MY picture anytime you want!". am i right? :o)

Jeff i know what you mean about some event happening, and you want to grab it, but the composition isn't there. this is a case where i'm glad you shot anyway, because her expression is wonderful and i think it carries the photo well enough. of course you have a ton of other shots where the timing and composition worked together for you, and i guess those are "better" shots in a more general sense. since you've titled this one "expression", it works at that level really well.

I think i'd dodge her face just a little though, it seems a bit dark.

what umbrella? oh that one? shoot... it fades into the background and i don't even notice it. good thing it wasn't one of those dark ones tho... :o)

who's next ? .... somebody say something. :o)

Sometimes it just takes me awhile! :) I think the expression is the photo. I don't really see the umbrella as affecting it.

Perhaps all the elements don't come together to make it a great photo, but it IS a great expression. That's enough to make it a very worthwhile photo.
