Gore Won

Or, as food for thought, consider this story about the 64,000 purged 'felons' from the Florida voter rolls... only for those who like to consider how much of what they think they know is actually unknowable, such as, did Kathrine Harris and Jeb Bush plan this "screw-up"?

"Gore might have won"

-- (Paracelsus@Pb.Au), March 10, 2001.

Yes, more people may have intended to vote for Gore than Bush, for all we know. More may have intended Bush votes as well, for all we know. For all we can ever know.

I suspect that the winning side is considerably less motivated to find possible ways they might have lost votes. Why bother, since it doesn't matter how much you win by. Had the vote been the other way by the same margin, I think the Republicans would be overturning every pebble looking for ways they might have won, if only things had been different. And probably raising the issue of possible conspiracies among those who might have been responsible for anything even slightly off-color that might have made a difference in the vote, unless it didn't. We'll never know.

I stand behind my bet that both candidates will win at least one of the many recounts, and that both sides will point to the count(s) favoring their guy and calling it the "real" count. A fascinating exercise in irrelevance any longer.

It is March 10th. The election was November 7th. The best they can do is say Gore might have won? Can't wait to see how Slate spins this as a Gore mandate.
