Christina,

Edgar Allan Poe's mother, Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe died in RIchmond, Virginia on December 8, 1811 and is buried at Old St. John's Church in Richmond. Her death was thought to have been caused by a long struggle with pneumonia or some other viral illness. There is no evidence to suggest she died of tuberculosis. At the time of her death, her husband, David Poe, Jr. had been alleged to have abandoned the family in Richmond.

David Poe, Jr. is thought to have died within days of his wife although the circumstances of his death are unknown. There is one story from the Mackenzie family that took in Poe's sister, Rosalie. They suggested that David Poe, Jr. had been left in Norfolk, Virginia by his Acting Troupe because of an illness and he died a few days later, perhaps as late as January, 1812.

Regards,
